Video: Class of '88 Alumna Gets Long-Awaited Commencement Day

The Class of 2017 weren't the only graduates calling last Saturday a special Webster University commencement day. Karla Ramser-Young, who earned her MA in 1988 but was near full term in her pregnancy at the time, finally got to walk across the stage 29 years later during Webster's 98th commencement at The Muny in Forest Park.

When she told her son, Joshua, that missing her ceremony was a long-held regret, he arranged with Webster for her to travel to St. Louis from Louisville, Kentucky, and cross this item off her "bucket list."

Alerted to the unique story by Webster staff who helped arrange the occasion one day before Mothers Day, the University's Global Marketing & Communications was also able to shoot footage and interview her and her son, supplying it to Louisville's WDRB TV station, which ran a feature story.
