Webster University Centennial – 100 Years and Counting!

ST. LOUIS (Aug. 21, 2014) - (St. Louis, Missouri – August 25, 2014): Webster University is proud to announce its centennial festivities will begin this fall in downtown St. Louis and in Webster Groves at the university’s home campus.  From there, the activities will extend to all Webster locations around the globe.  The university’s centennial celebration officially begins on September 19 and will culminate in November 2015, the actual centennial anniversary.

Calling all Webster alums, downtown workers, residents and the public: Plan to join us for a fun and festive downtown lunchtime street party as Webster University celebrates turning 100 years old! 

Later that day, all Webster Groves neighbors and friends are invited to join us for a Garden Glow event on campus as we welcome back alumni as part of our Homecoming weekend.

Webster University’s Centennial Celebration Kick-off

11 AM – 2 PM
Old Post Office Plaza
Just steps away from the Webster University campus in downtown St. Louis Eighth & Olive Streets Downtown St. Louis, M0 63101.

Festivities: Food trucks – Yo! Taco, Andrew’s Bayou Ribs and Sarah’s Cake Stop - and beverage stations, live music by Erin Bode and Samba Bom, street hoops and live chess games, mingling with & photos with our town’s mascots – Gorlok, Billiken, Bear, Fredbird, Rampage & Louie - and more surprises! 

Paint The Big One Hundred:
 Gigantic painting and decorating project for everyone to make their creative mark on “Webster’s 100.” The enormous sculpture will then be moved and installed on the Webster University main campus for continued decorating and viewing throughout the centennial year. Entertainment is FREE! A not-to-be-missed EVENT! Rain or Shine!

  • 12:15 PM: Official opening of the centennial celebration, with brief remarks by Webster University President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble and Mayor Slay’s office. 
  • 5:30 PM: Webster’s Homecoming Garden Glow event on the Webster Groves campus

Festivities: The lead-in Light-the-Night 100 will take place on Thursday, September 18. Keep your eyes to the sky! During Light-the-Night, gobo projections featuring “Webster 100” will be projected onto many of St. Louis’ regional landmarks. Each projection will be uploaded in real-time to social media.
