Webster University Selected as a Top School for Military and Veterans

Dec. 4, 2014

ST. LOUIS (DEC. 4, 2015) - Webster University was designated a top school in the 2015 “Military Advanced Education” (MAE) Guide to Colleges & Universities, it was announced today. The guide, which measures best practices in military and veteran education, will be released as part of the December issue of MAE and also will be published online at www.mae-kmi.com.

Webster University has been listed in the annual guide every year since it was first published eight years ago.

“Webster University takes its commitment to active-duty service members seriously, and that is reflected in Webster’s recognition by Military Advanced Education,” said retired United States Air Force Brig. Gen. Mike Callan, Webster University’s associate vice president for Military and Governmental Programs. “The ranking is a reflection of the dedication and hard work that Webster University offers members of the military in finding the highest quality and most affordable education that meets their educational needs.”

MAE annually sends out a questionnaire to more than 600 institutions including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year, and two-year colleges for the guide. This year, institutes were evaluated on their military culture, financial aid, flexibility, on-campus support and online support services. Each school’s performance rating by category is represented by an easy-to-recognize dashboard to allow prospective students to quickly target schools that follow best practices in military education, and put those in context with other academic or career considerations.

“We believe the Guide serves as an invaluable tool for both education services officers and transition officers when advising servicemembers about their educational opportunities,” said Kelly Fodel, MAE’s editor. “We used strict criteria to individually evaluate the submissions of respondents, and we had a record number of schools participating this year.”

Besides being printed, the 2015 guide also exists as a searchable database at www.mae-kmi.com.

This isn’t the first honor Webster’s Office of Military Affairs received this year.  Webster University was included in the Military Times “Best for Vets: Colleges” rankings for the third year in a row last month. This distinction recognizes and rewards schools for its commitment to providing opportunities to America’s veterans. The rankings factored in service member enrollment, percentage of tuition covered by the GI Bill® and availability of specific programs to help service members. Webster was ranked at 57 out of 100 four year colleges on the list.

Webster also is included in U.S. News & World Report's "Best Online Programs for Veterans" 2015 report, recognized for its online graduate business and graduate education programs, as well as the GI Jobs magazine annual ranking of best “military-friendly” colleges. U.S. news also ranked Webster among the 40 “Best Colleges for Veterans.”

Webster University's service-to-service members date back to 1974, when, at the invitation of the Department of Defense, Webster offered its programs for the first time at Ft. Sheridan, located north of Chicago. Programs at Scott Air Force Base near St. Louis followed soon thereafter. Today, Webster is one of the largest providers of graduate-level military education in the United States.
