Advising Curriculum Series 'Key Academic Policies and Questions' Nov. 9

The Academic Advising Center’s Undergraduate Team presents its third Advising Curriculum Program at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, both in person and via WebEx. This session’s theme is “Key Academic Policies and Questions” and will include discussion on updating Degree Audits with minors and certificates, Overloads, using Starfish, Incompletes, and Drops/Withdrawals/Late Withdrawals.

Advising Curriculum Program Set for Oct. 5

The Academic Advising Center’s Undergraduate Team presents its second Advising Curriculum Program at 2 p.m. CDT on Friday, Oct. 5, both in person and via WebEx. This session will demonstrate the process with templates of communication with students, using degree audits and the Student Success Portal to prepare for the appointment, as well as what students should learn, and follow up for advisors and students.

Summer Academic Advising Opportunities

This year the Academic Advising Center will have a limited number of advising stipends available for full-time faculty to aid in our summer freshmen and transfer student registration. We are mandated by Academic Affairs to have a mix of both new and experienced faculty on the summer team. The positions call for a limited number of hours to be worked during the May-August registration season for group sessions for Freshmen as well as individual appointments in the Academic Advising Center.

Invitation for 2018-19 Provost Faculty Fellow Program

The Provost’s Faculty Fellows Program is an invitation for faculty members to contribute to the leadership of key strategic efforts of Webster University on a part-time basis by partnering with Academic Affairs or its support units. This opportunity allows faculty to work on special projects that are of particular interest and importance that take full advantage of the unique interests, skills, and academic backgrounds of the University’s diverse faculty. There will be up to four faculty fellows in the 2018-19 academic year. Submit proposals by Jan. 19, 2018.

Intrusive Advising and Faculty Guidance Regarding Incompletes

In an effort to continue to improve student success, including persistence and graduation, the University is tracking incomplete grades (as well as other unsuccessful grades including Ds, Fs, and Ws) and more actively and regularly reaching out to students and academic departments to resolve the grades before they turn to ZFs after one year.

TAP Preps Incoming Students for Transition to College, Success at Webster

This summer Webster's Transition and Academic Prep (TAP) program assisted 37 new students for the transition to college academics and Webster University. Since 2011 this free program has helped almost 150 conditionally admitted students connect with the resources and tools they need to succeed.

Sept. 7 Meeting for Prior Learning Assessment

Over the spring and summer, Webster University community members attended best practices webinars on prior learning assessment. The process helps students identify, document and assesses college-level knowledge and skills learned outside the formal classroom. Interested faculty, staff, and departments are encouraged to hear a report and discuss next steps on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Faculty Development Center.

TAP Program Adds Service Learning Project, Preps New Students July 20-29

The Academic Resource Center is gearing up for the 2016 Summer TAP (Transitions and Academic Prep) program, which will be held from July 20-29. TAP is a free residential program for conditionally admitted Transitions students who are new to Webster. During TAP, students live on campus, take college courses and participate in campus workshops and activities to help them transition to university life.

Webster Hosts Study Abroad Partners, Presents at Annual NAFSA Conference

International education professionals from around the globe recently meet in Denver, Colorado for the annual NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference. More than 9,000 professionals gathered to discuss issues surrounding all specialties of the field. The conference featured more than 200 sessions and workshops including presentations by Webster’s Bethany Keller, assistant director of the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs, and Kim McGrath, WINS director.
