Election Day and the Thanksgiving holiday encouraged the Accessibility Committee and the Academic Resource Center to reflect on the accomplishments of some of the United States’ most well-known individuals despite their challenges with “disabilities.” Many are well aware of some of these examples but may be less familiar with some of the more hidden disabilities that former commanders in chief have overcome and/or managed.

The Teaching Festival will be held the week of Feb. 11, and proposals will be accepted until Jan. 9. All Webster instructors, part-time and full-time, are invited to participate.

Student Success Portal Fall Midterm Progress Surveys Launch Oct. 19

The Fall Midterm Progress Survey will launch via the Student Success Portal on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. This survey will be distributed to all Fall semester-long U.S. domestic courses, on-ground and online, and will be available for faculty to complete during a 10-day window that will close on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018. Progress Surveys make reporting the academic progress of students easy and efficient by allowing faculty members to raise early alerts (Flags) for items and to provide positive feedback (Kudos) to students.

To make individuals with disabilities feel welcome, try adding an accessibility statement to the bottom of your next event flyer.

Effective Wednesday, Oct. 3, Kristin Cobos will move into the full-time position of Writing Center and Online Writing Center Coordinator in the Academic Resource Center (ARC). Cobos will be meeting with many departments and individuals as part of her on-boarding and training process. Carolyn I. Brown, who previously filled the role, is now the Assistant Director of the ARC.

Tutoring Program Available to Students Through the Academic Resource Center

As the semester is well underway, students may be presenting a need for additional subject-matter assistance. The Webster University Tutoring Program at the Academic Resource Center (ARC) provides a pool of capable tutors who can work one-on-one with students to help them achieve greater confidence, independence, and success as learners. This program is free of charge and serves all students who are currently enrolled in courses at Webster University. Individual peer tutoring is available by appointment for both short-term "catch-up" assistance and ongoing support.

Faculty: Connect students to Academic Counseling

Academic Counseling is a service provided by the Academic Resource Center to all Webster University students across the worldwide Webster University community. It involves individual one-on-one sessions for students who would like to develop better organizational and learning strategies. The sessions can include one-time events or ongoing academic counseling and mentoring services.
