Webster University Named Finalist for Hobsons Education Advances Award, Webinar Announced

Webster University was named a finalist for the 2020 Hobsons Education Advances Award earlier this spring. This designation recognizes the progress Webster University has made in support of students through the Student Success Portal, powered by Starfish, and other initiatives. This progress includes cultural change to put students first and use data to drive decision-making.

Incomplete Grade Guidance for Summer 2020

June 29, 2020

Effective June 1, 2020, the allowable timeframe for grades of Incompletes has changed to two terms following the course end date. Grades of Incomplete are an option that faculty may select to allow students to complete their work if the situation is appropriate. Per catalog policy, appropriate situations are those “where the student has satisfactorily completed major components of the course and has the ability to finish the remaining work without re-enrolling.”

Academic Resource Center Undergoing Expansion, Renovation

June 18, 2020

Construction has begun on an expansion and renovation to the Academic Resource Center (ARC). The ARC, physically located on the Webster Groves campus in Loretto Hall Room 40, is expanding into the space between it and Marletto’s (where the Human Resources offices used to be located). This work will continue throughout the summer and conclude just after the start of the Fall 2020 semester.

Student Success Portal: Summer early term progress survey launches June 12

June 09, 2020

The Summer 2020 Early Term Progress Survey launches Friday, June 12, and is open for 10 days, closing Monday, June 22, at 11 p.m. CST. This survey is distributed to all graduate and undergraduate Summer term courses throughout the United States and at the Leiden campus as well as to undergraduate courses at the Tashkent, Uzbekistan, campus.

Virtual Ceremony Recognizes Freshman Writing Award Student Winners

April 21, 2020

The Freshman Writing Award celebrates academic excellence in writing, honoring two students each spring. This year’s ceremony took place April 17 via WebEx. This year’s first place winner was Nathaniel Lutz-Sausele, recognized for his essay, “Whitman’s Fulfillment of Emerson’s ‘Poet’ Prophecy." The second place essay, “Unique Femininity in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night," was written by Gabby Buchholz.

Incomplete Grade Guidance for Spring, COVID-19 Considerations

Though the university is not changing the policy or general guidance with regard to grades of Incomplete during the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been questions raised as to how to handle incomplete grades. As with all grading considerations for the University is encouraging faculty to be considerate of students’ situations and flexible where possible. Undergraduate and School of Education grades are due on May 15. All other graduate course grades are due May 22.

Webster Community Invited to Attend Virtual Freshman Writing Award Ceremony

April 17, 2020

The Freshman Writing Award celebrates academic excellence in writing. It honors two students – a first place winner and a second place winner – each spring. These students must be freshmen during the Fall semester preceding the award and must have written their nominations for a Webster course during the applicable Fall semester. Beyond those details, there are no limitations on the types of written works that may be submitted for the award.

Scola Named Academic ADA Coordinator

Following a robust search to fill the permanent academic ADA coordinator position, the Academic Resource Center announces that Tasha Scola, current interim academic ADA coordinator, is moving into the permanent role on April 16. Scola has been serving in the interim role since Dec. 16, 2019, and has helped students, prospective students, faculty, and staff in this position.

Update: ARC Supports and Services Remain Available

March 19, 2020

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is available to support faculty and students as we move all St. Louis and US Metro classes – as well as classes at many of our non-US campuses – online. Due to the need to continue to cut down on person-to-person interactions, the physical Academic Resource Center (ARC) is closing until it is safe to return to normal operations. While the physical ARC is closed, the core academic support resources and services – academic counseling, ADA services, assistive technology assistance, tutoring, and writing – remain available to faculty and students.

Spring I Faculty Who Submitted Grades of Incomplete

March 17, 2020

Spring 1 faculty who submitted a Grade of Incomplete for any students for the Spring 1 term and who requested that the student receive continued access to WorldClassRoom (Canvas) in order for the student complete course requirements should be aware that there will be a slight delay in processing these continued access requests due to the necessary work and response surrounding the University’s COVID-19 response and continuity planning.

Spring Midterm Progress Survey Launches March 6
