Helping Students Succeed: Let the library, ARC help with extended site orientations

Prepare new students for success by including the Library in your orientations! Librarians are available to appear at your campus via Webnet+ to give students a brief demonstration of the resources and services available to them. Web conference can be as brief as 10 minutes, and be tailored to meet the needs of your students. Our general introduction video, How We Can Help, is also available on the library YouTube channel and homepage. The Academic Resource Center also makes such orientation available.

Webster Welcomes Students in Summer TAP Program July 17-26

The Academic Resource Center and academic partners throughout campus are gearing up for the Summer TAP (Transitions and Academic Prep) program to be held July 17-26. TAP is a free residential program for conditionally admitted Transitions students who are new to Webster. During the 10-day program, TAP students live on campus, take a two-credit college course, and participate in campus workshops and activities, including the faculty "lunch and learn," to help them transition to university life.

NetTutor

Additional Tutoring Resources Available for All Webster Students

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is excited to announce the additional tutoring resource of online, professional tutoring through NetTutor. To use this resource, students can access any course in WorldClassRoom (Canvas) and now click on NetTutor in the left-hand menu of the course. NetTutor’s professional tutoring resources compliment the current peer tutoring resources offered through the ARC’s Tutoring Program, and students may access both programs and resources.

Incomplete Guidance: Undergrad first 5-week session grades due July 5

June 26, 2019

Grades for Undergraduate first 5-week session courses are due Friday, July 5. Grades must be posted by the end of the day July 5, and may not be left as In Progress (IP). Any Incomplete (I) grades posted must have the required accompanying paperwork submitted with them (see article for details and links).

Student Success Portal Summer Early Term Progress Survey Launches June 14

The Summer 2019 Early Term Progress Survey launches Friday, June 14, and is open for 10 days, closing Monday, June 24, at 11 p.m. This survey is distributed to all Summer U.S. on-ground and online courses. Faculty members are expected to complete their survey(s) during the 10-day window – even if they have no feedback to submit – because students are responding to the flags and kudos raised.

Academic Resource Center Pairs with NetTutor, Wyatt Moves to Tutoring Program Coordinator

Effective Monday, June 3, Cherie Wyatt, current part-time Undergraduate Academic Advisor, will move into the full-time role of the Tutoring Program Coordinator. Additionally, the university is moving forward with its partnership with NetTutor, a professional online tutoring program.

ARC: Program Goal Assessment

Webster’s Academic Resource Center (ARC) has assessed the current status of multiple programs: Plagiarism Prevention Program (PPP), the Testing Center, the Tutoring Program, and the Writing Center. ARC is requesting that departments schedule time with ARC team members to discuss the various programs, services that ARC offers and how to integrate them into your classrooms to ensure ARC is an integral part of students’ academic experiences.

Congratulations to this year's Freshman Writing Award winners, who were celebrated at the event's 14th annual ceremony and luncheon sponsored by the Academic Resource Center. The 1st-place winner was Sarah Hill for her essay, "U.S.-Russia Nuclear Pact and The Blame Game," for Kelly-Kate Pease. The Creative Writing Award winner was Jai Bollan for his essay, "The Validity of My Humanity," for Kate Parsons.

ARC Announces Demo for Online Tutoring Program, NetTutor

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is hosting a demo for a professional online tutoring program, NetTutor. The proposed partnership with NetTutor will supplement the current options within the Tutoring Program. An online demonstration showing of NetTutor is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, from 3-4:30 p.m., in EAB 137. Anyone interested in joining the session remotely may join via WebEx.
