Academic Advising Center Announces Change in Leadership

Kyle McCool has been named Senior Director for Academic Advising. In her new role, McCool will oversee Undergraduate Academic Advising and have expanded responsibility for advising services for graduates and undergraduates at Webster’s extended campuses. Additionally, Amy Carroll and Beth Sims, senior academic advisors on the Graduate Advising team, have been named assistant directors of Graduate Advising.

This survey is distributed to all graduate and undergraduate Fall 1 term and Fall semester courses on-ground and online throughout the United States.

ARC Programs Receive Three-Year Recertification

The Tutoring Program and Writing Center, two programs in the Academic Resource Center (ARC), have received recertification of the College Reading and Learning Association International Tutor Training Program Certification. Work for the recertification was completed by Carolyn I. Brown, assistant director, and Kristin Cobos, Writing and Online Writing Center coordinator.

Additional Tutoring Resources Available for All Webster Students

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is excited to announce the additional tutoring resource of online, professional tutoring through NetTutor. To use this resource, students can access any course in WorldClassRoom (Canvas) and now click on NetTutor in the left-hand menu of the course. NetTutor’s professional tutoring resources compliment the current peer tutoring resources offered through the ARC’s Tutoring Program, and students may access both programs and resources.

The Summer 2019 Early Term Progress Survey launches Friday, June 14, and is open for 10 days, closing Monday, June 24, at 11 p.m. This survey is distributed to all Summer U.S. on-ground and online courses. Faculty members are expected to complete their survey(s) during the 10-day window – even if they have no feedback to submit – because students are responding to the flags and kudos raised.

The Academic Advising Center will sponsor its program “Preparing for Summer and Fall Registration” on Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in room 137 of the East Academic Building or via WebEx. This program will give advisors new tools like the Course Sequence/Degree Plans and new insights on how to use the Degree Audit to answer, in particular, Global Citizenship Program questions.

Summer Academic Advising Opportunities

This year the Academic Advising Center will have a limited number of advising stipends available for full-time faculty to aid in our summer freshmen and transfer student registration. We are mandated by Academic Affairs to have a mix of both new and experienced faculty on the summer team. The positions call for a limited number of hours to be worked during the May-August registration season for group sessions for Freshmen as well as individual appointments in the Academic Advising Center.
