ARC Policies, Guidelines Channel Now Available in Connections

Academic Resource Center (ARC) policies and guidelines may now be found in a newly created ARC Policies and Guidelines channel, accessible to Webster employees on the Faculty and Staff tabs within Connections. Current policies and guidelines available include ADA Procurement Process, Flexible Assignment Deadline Guidelines, Occasional Absence Due to Medical Reason Guidelines, Webster ESA (Emotional Support Animal) Policy and Contract, Webster SA (Service Animal) Guidelines, and Webster General Housing Accommodations Guidelines.

Janice Neal will serve as the CCME president for 2019-20.

Janice Neal Named CCME President for 2019-20

Janice Neal, director of the Webster Los Angeles Air Force Base campus location and regional director for the Western Region of military campuses, took office as president of the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) during the organization’s annual symposium in Austin, Texas on Jan. 24. Neal has been actively involved in the CCME board since 2010. She previously held positions as CCME secretary, vice president, and is now president in 2019-20.

VetSuccess Counselor Moving to Advising Center

Effective Oct. 23, VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC) counselor Jason Blakemore will be located in the Advising Center and Career Planning and Development Center in Garden Park Plaza. Student veterans may now check in with the Advising Center front desk for appointments. VSOC serves a vital role supporting our veteran population from the Webster Groves campus, providing various services to student veterans such as education and training opportunities, adjustment counseling to resolve problems, referrals to health and community services, assistance for other veterans benefits and a mentorship program.

A team of Webster University faculty and staff advisors gathered at the NACADA (Global Community for Academic Advising) Summer Institute in Albuquerque to work on an action plan to discuss the creation of a Global Advising Council for Webster University. Faculty advisor attendance at the summer institute was funded in part by the Presidential Retention Challenge Fund.

Incomplete Guidance: End of Summer terms

As faculty members prepare to submit grades, we encourage faculty members and academic advisors to review the guidance regarding Incompletes and ensure that Incompletes are only being used in appropriate situations. All graduate and undergraduate Summer session courses should be assigned a grade by Friday, Aug. 3, and undergraduate second five-week session courses should be assigned a grade by Friday, Aug.10. The Inventory, available beginning Friday, July 6, is a new feature available to faculty and staff users in the Student Success Portal, powered by Starfish. The Inventory is a listing of student success interventions, including at other Starfish partner institutions, that can be explored to provide additional support to students. Faculty and staff users can search the Inventory and share relevant information on services, programs and support with students.

Incomplete Grades: Faculty guidance on usage, Starfish features

Courses ending Friday, June 29, must have grades posted by Friday, July 6. Do not submit an Incomplete as a student’s grade or leave a student’s grade as In Progress if the student has not attended class for several weeks and/or is missing most of the required work. Inaccurately using Incomplete grades or leaving In Progress grades posted can harm a student’s academic progress, course sequencing, persistence and graduation. See this post for more guidance.

The Summer Early Term Progress Survey will launch via the Student Success Portal on Friday, June 15, 2018. This survey will be distributed to most graduate and undergraduate Summer U.S. on-ground and online courses and will be available for faculty to complete during a 10-day window that will close on Monday, June 25, 2018. Courses not surveyed are running in non-standard terms and have already completed or will not yet have started by the time of the survey window.
