Students Present at Graphic Design Showcase

Local designers, art directors, prospective students, alumni, faculty, and staff gathered to commemorate the Sixth Annual Graphic Design Showcase, held Dec. 7 in Sunnen Lounge. This event is co-hosted by the Department of Art, Design and Art History in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts and the Career Planning & Development Center. Graphic Design students presented their digital and print portfolios.

'Meet the Artist' Series Forges Bonds in Geneva Community

Fifteen visual artists are presenting their work to an audience of the campus community and local guests as part of the second season of Webster Geneva's "Meet the Artists" series. Apart from providing a platform for visual arts and outreach to the local community, the series was also created to enhance the potential of students to think in critical, creative, and cross-disciplinary ways. "Campus response has been tremendous," says Dr. Julianna Sandholm-Bark. "It has definitely created some interesting conversations."

Join us for the Hunt Gallery opening reception of "ILSSA Implement: Essential Tools for Living" on Friday, Nov. 16, with a special preview for the Webster University community starting at 5:30 p.m. Artist and ILSSA co-founder, Emily Larned, will speak about the exhibition and about ILSSA at the DADAH Friday Forum on Friday from noon-1 p.m. in Sverdrup 123. Learned will speak again, briefly, at 6:45 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

Osei's 'Fashion and the Brain' at Arcade Gallery Oct. 26

Join the Department of Art, Design, and Art History Friday (DADAH), Oct. 26, 6-8 p.m. at the Arcade Building located on the Gateway Campus for a free reception and exhibition opening of “Fashion and the Brain.” This is a collaborative project of artist, adjunct DADAH faculty member and 2013 alumna Yvonne Osei, University of Missouri St. Louis and the Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH).

Webster Presents, 'Freedom: The American Hustle' a Multi-Media Exhibit

Webster University presents "Freedom: The American Hustle," a multi-media exhibit by St. Louis artists John K. Blair and Vaughn Davis Jr., at the Arcade Contemporary Art Projects at the Gateway campus. The opening reception is 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. The exhibit takes its title and much of its inspiration from seminal films from the 1970’s Blaxploitation genre, some of which will screen at the Webster Groves campus the weekend of Sept. 8-9. A panel discussion with the artists and Webster faculty members will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at the Arcade.

A fashion show that will explore the essence of "manhood" will be the featured event July 20 at the Gateway Art Museum. "Manology II" is the brainchild of local fashion visionary Jacquelyne Craig, founder of BLAQ Séance Productions, and William Humphrey of EYEKON Klothing. It will be accompanied by two art exhibits in the gallery space that will be on display through Aug. 20.

Vienna director Johannes Pollak was on Austrian radio FM4 about Brexit's prospects. ... Criminology professor Remy Cross was interviewed about the investigation of police action during the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally. ... Art and psychology major Amanda Bushey was featured in the Belleville News Democrat for her art therapy work with veterans dealing with PTSD.

Webster Athens Hosts Mexican Art Exhibition

The Association of Mexican Artists and Intellectuals in Greece, with the support of the Embassy of Mexico in Athens and Webster University Athens, offered Greek audiences the country's strong artistic tradition which is very much celebrated today. A large sample of internationally renowned and prolific handicrafts and popular art from Mexico were exhibited in Webster Athens Cultural Center.

Remembering Jack Canepa, Longtime Art Professor

Webster University's Department of Art, Design and Art History remembers longtime faculty member Jack Canepa, who passed away Feb. 6. A brilliant artist and master teacher, he was professor at Webster from 1971 till his retirement in 1994. He was director of the Loretto Hilton Art Gallery and taught painting, drawing, conceptual art, and art history. He also fostered communities within Webster and throughout the city.

BFA Exhibition Opening Reception April 29

The BFA Exhibition is an opportunity for the bachelor of fine arts majors emphasizing in both Studio Art and in Graphic Design to display their senior thesis work. This year the Department of Art, Design and Art History is excited to debut the exhibition at The Arcade Museum Gateway Campus in downtown St. Louis. The opening reception is Friday, April 29, 7-10 p.m. The Cecille R. Hunt Memorial Award for BFA in Art and the W. John Hilgert Award will be awarded that evening.

An opening reception for the Webster University BA Exhibition will be held Friday, April 22, from 6-8 p.m. in the Cecille R. Hunt Gallery. The BA Exhibition is held at the end of each year as an opportunity for the Art majors to showcase their Senior Overview work, and is attended by the Department of Art, Design & Art History faculty, family and friends, as a celebration of the BA graduates and their concluding work.
