Webster University Volleyball Earns Ninth Straight AVCA Team Academic Award

For the ninth consecutive year, the Webster University women’s volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with a Team Academic Award. The 2016 Gorloks also raised their team grade point average (GPA) for a third straight year, maintaining a lofty 3.64 for 2016-17.

Webster Golf Team Receives GCAA Special Academic Recognition Award

For the sixth consecutive year, the Webster University men's golf team was awarded the 2016-2017 Team Academic Award by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Additionally, the Gorloks were one of only seven NCAA III teams nationwide that received President's Special Recognition by the GCAA for posting a 3.54 grade point average (GPA) for 2016-17.

Webster Baseball, Softball Win National NCAA D-III Stat Awards

Webster University students have been recognized as NCAA Division III national statistical champions in several categories on the baseball and softball fields. A week after graduating softball player Karissa Cardenas was declared the "Toughest to Strike Out" in 2017, baseball players Josh Fleming (lowest ERA) and Kyle Uhrich (strikeouts per nine innings) were also recognized for their champion performances. The baseball team itself was also NCAA D-III's top performer in strikeouts per nine innings.

Second Baseball Player Joins Professional Team

Webster University baseball had a rare feat in 2017 for an NCAA III program, with two players signing professional contracts, including one drafted to the MLB. Josh Fleming was drafted in the fifth round of the MLB draft with the 139th pick overall by the Tampa Bay Rays, and Kyle Uhrich became the second Gorlok to land a contract, signing with the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League.

Webster Student Selected in 5th Round of MLB Draft

Webster University junior business administration major Josh Fleming is in rarified air. The left-handed conference pitcher of the year had his name called in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft, when he was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays on June 13. The 139th pick overall, he was just the second SLIAC player ever selected in baseball's annual draft.

Cardenas Selected for NCAA Career In Sports Forum

Webster University senior student and softball team member Karissa Cardenas has been selected to attend the NCAA Career In Sports Forum. This is the eighth year the NCAA has invited student-athletes with an interest in working in the sports industry to attend the forum. Cardenas will be the lone representative from St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools.

Baseball Players Earn All-American, Pitcher of the Year Honors

Webster University students Josh Fleming and Kyle Uhrich have received national recognition for their performances on the baseball field this past season. D3baseball.com has named Fleming the 2017 Pitcher of the Year, as well as placing him on their All-American First Team; Uhrich was named a Third Team All-American for a second straight year. Additionally, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-America Team named Fleming a First Team selection at pitcher and Uhrich a Second Team choice at utility.

Webster Golf Makes History by Advancing to NCAA D-III Championship Finals

The Webster University golf team made the cut for the finals of the NCAA Division-III Championships, shooting a second round 315, on Wednesday, May 17, at the Mission Inn Resort & Club, in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.  For the first time in team history the Gorloks advanced to the 3rd and 4th rounds, keeping alive their quest for a national title.

Webster SAAC and FCA Sponsor Division III Week

The Webster University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) are sponsoring events for Division III Week, April 3-7, with a week of events to engage the community in celebrating D-III sports. From watching the NCAA basketball championship while getting a massage and eating free pizza, to a pool party with free Chick-fil- A, there will several fun activities, a collection drive for an alumna-founded nonprofit, and a free raffle for Cardinal tickets.

Webster Inducts 2017 Athletics Hall of Fame Class

The 2017 Webster University Athletics Hall of Fame class was inducted in a Feb. 4 ceremony as part of a "pack the house" weekend coinciding with men's and women's basketball games on campus. Scott Kilgallon, director of Athletics, along with Webster University President Elizabeth (Beth) Stroble and Athletics coordinator Amy O'Brien, presented the inductees and award winners.
