Voluntary Summer Week Furlough; Floating Holiday Information

The University will again offer interested staff the opportunity to take a voluntary one week furlough between May 27 and July 31, 2017. Additionally, as announced at the St. Louis Employee Recognition Breakfast, a floating has been approved for all regular full-time and part-time staff to be taken between June 1 and Dec. 31, 2017. Verity Named Interim Director for Study Abroad

The Office of Academic Affairs has announced that Hannah Verity, director of Global Program Development, has been named interim director of the Office of Study Abroad effective June 1. In this role, she will work with colleagues in Study Abroad and the WINS program to develop plans for an expanded and enhanced Study Abroad campaign for 2017-18. Verity will continue in the role of director of Global Program Development while serving as interim director of Study Abroad.

Summer Tuition Remission Applications Due

May 19, 2017

Tuition Remission Application forms are due for eligible, Summer 2017-registered Webster faculty, staff and dependents. Submit completed, supervisor-signed Tuition Remission Application forms to via interoffice mail to Terrie Snyder, Business Office, Webster Hall, Room 101; scanned and emailed to snydertd@webster.edu; or faxed to 314-963-6105. Questions regarding Webster's tuition remission benefit should be directed to Human Resources.

New Guest Wireless Network Beginning May 18

Webster will have a new Guest Wireless network beginning Thursday, May 18. This new wireless network will be available anywhere we already have the “webster-wifi” network, including most extended sites. This new network will offer more security, control and provide a more streamlined experience for guests to the University needing internet access.

Founding Director of Ghana Campus, Media/Journalism Program, Retiring

May 16, 2017

Tom Oates, the inaugural director of Webster’s Ghana campus, is retiring at the end of May. Oates first joined the then-Webster College in 1972, spending eight years in roles that included director of the Media Center and founding director of the media and journalism undergraduate degree program and the MA in Media Studies. He returned to Webster in 2012 upon the establishment and opening of the Ghana campus in Accra.

Commencement season is in high gear at Webster University, with several ceremonies at campuses around the world taking place last weekend, and more to come through the summer. The largest was the 98th annual ceremony at The Muny in St. Louis, which attracted grads and families from across the network. See photos and links for the scenes from several ceremonies celebrating this year's 6,058 grads who add to a network of 192,000 alumni.

Susan Polgar was profiled in the Times of Israel feature, "The female chess grandmaster who checked male privilege," Eileen Solomon was quoted in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Sinclair's proposed purchase of Tribune Media, William Hall was quoted on Jeff Sessions' role in James Comey's firing, and Jean Paul van Marissing was interviewed for thoughts on leadership in the Dutch magazine, Hello Zuidas.

The annual Collaboratory provides a space for the Webster community to share research, collaborate across disciplines, strengthen assessment practices, and explore new directions related to teaching and learning. CRF Informational Meeting on May 15

There will be a Committee to Review Faculty informational meeting for any faculty members intending to petition for initial status (FDL or tenure) and/or promotion in the 2017-2018 academic year or at some later academic year. This meeting will be held in the Library Conference Room on Monday, May 15, from 10-11 a.m.
