Staff: Completed Your Degree? HR Accepting Request for Award Forms through May 20

Human Resources is accepting Request for Award Completion of Degree forms from Webster Staff through May 20, 2017. Full-time non-academic staff in the United States who complete a degree from Webster University or from any other accredited institution of higher education will be granted a cash award of $500 for an associate’s degree, $1000 for a bachelor’s degree, $1500 for a master’s degree and $2000 for a doctorate degree.

The Webster Wellness Committee would like to congratulate the 22 participants of the 2017 Webster Wellness 1st Annual “Try”-athlon that took place from April 17-23 in the University Pool & Fitness Center. Participants competed against fellow members of the Webster community in one of the three divisions (All-in-a-day, One-Week Format and Team). All participants are invited to the Final Celebration on April 28, 2017 @ Noon in the Library Conference Room.

The "Stop Human Trafficking" event co-sponsored by the Legal Studies Department was covered on KPLR TV and St. Louis Public Radio, School of Communications adjunct faculty member Julie Smith was interviewed in a Washington Post Magazine feature on media literacy and fake news, and Vienna international relations head Franco Algieri was interviewed by Der Standard on U.S., China and Europe relations.

Warren Rosenblum was awarded a fellowship at the U.S. Holocaust Museum and Memorial. Lionel Cuille presented at an International French Studies colloquium. Kim McGrath presented "Women in Leadership: How to Prepare for Difficult Conversations" at the Forum on Education Abroad. Menbere Workie is publishing a monthly commentary on economics and finance. Zlatko Cosic's newest film, "Even The Birds Know It," will screen at a festival in Gdańsk, Poland.

Next HLC Focus Sessions: Academic Quality and Planning, General Ed

In preparation for the next HLC comprehensive visit, a working group is gathering evidence to demonstrate that Webster meets the five criteria for accreditation and developing a first draft of the assurance argument. This spring, the working group is offering "HLC Focus Sessions" on key areas of accreditation. The sessions are designed to provide information, but also to solicit information and examples that support our assurance argument. Please plan to attend sessions relevant to your area.

Dean's Service Award Nominations Due April 17

Nominate Students for Dean’s Award for Service for Spring Semester. The Dean's Award for Service is given each semester, recognizing Webster University students for performing a valuable service on or off campus. This award recognizes students’ volunteer efforts in their campus student leadership roles and in community service off-campus. Students can be nominated by any member of the Webster University community.

Upcoming RTC Session: 'Respecting and Challenging Authority in the Classroom and Beyond'

The Reflective Teaching Community (RTC) will hold its next session Friday, April 14, 12-1 p.m. CDT. All part-time and full-time faculty and academic partners are invited to join the group for discussion and a pizza lunch in the Faculty Development Center Suite (Emerson Library 420). At this meeting, Ted Green, Professor in the Department of Teacher Education, will facilitate a discussion on the topic of “Respecting and Challenging Authority in the Classroom and Beyond,” which will address issues of power, authority, and justice in the classroom and university environment at large.

Webster’s 97th Commencement ceremonies take place on Saturday, May 7

2017 Commencement: Staff, Faculty Bus Schedule May 12-13

Webster University’s 98th Commencement ceremonies take place on Saturday, May 13, in St. Louis at the historic outdoor amphitheater, The Muny in Forest Park. There will be bus transport on Friday, May 12, for faculty and staff participating in Commencement rehearsal. On Saturday, May 13, chartered buses will also be available to transport Commencement staff and participating faculty to and from campus. There is no formal sign-up required to ride the buses on either day.
