Creativity and Evidence Faculty Learning Community: Adobe Tools Nov. 15

The next meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from 3-4 p.m. in the FDC Suite (Library 420). Faculty member Martha Kneib will demonstrate how she uses Adobe Spark and Illustrator to create engaging assignments for her students. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and to share how they are using digital tools to promote learning and creativity.

Webster Teaching Festival 2019 Call for Proposals

The Teaching Festival Committee is now accepting proposals for presentations and posters for the 2019 Teaching Festival. The Teaching Festival will be held the week of Feb. 11, and proposals will be accepted until Jan. 9. All Webster instructors, part-time and full-time, are invited to participate.

Reflective Teaching Community Meeting, Nov. 2

The Faculty Development Center welcomes all part-time and full-time faculty and academic partners to save the date for the launch of it's Creativity and Evidence Learning Community’s monthly meetings. This learning community focuses on using digital tools to promote creativity while teaching skills such as critical thinking, digital literacy, and effective communication. The first meeting will be held Oct. 18, 3-4 p.m. in the Faculty Development Center (Emerson Library 420).

Reflective Teaching Community Meeting, Oct. 5

The October meeting of the 2018-19 Reflective Teaching Community (RTC) will be Friday, Oct. 5, 12-1 p.m. All part-time and full-time faculty and academic partners are invited to join the group for discussion and a pizza lunch in the Faculty Development Center Suite (Emerson Library 420). Dr. Carla Colletti will facilitate the topic “How Do I Know Whether My Students Are Getting It?”. All are welcome at this monthly gathering to discuss topics in teaching and learning in a supportive environment of like-minded colleagues.

GCP Collaboratory: Opportunities to Join Remotely

Faculty, students, and staff throughout Webster’s worldwide network are invited to tune in for streamed events during the Global Citizenship Collaboratory on May 21-22. The plenary events on Monday will be streamed at webster.edu/live, and participants can also remotely join two concurrent sessions on Tuesday. Those attending in person should RSVP by May 17.

Teaching Climate Change Policy with a Little Number Crunching

Complex topics, like climate change policy, can often be better understood when students get experience with the underlying information and data supporting the policy. Practical exercises help students understand policy concepts and the reasons why these policies become politically complex. Faculty, staff and students are invited to join John Aleshunas for a workshop on using data to teach about climate change, Wednesday, April 4, in East Academic Building 212, 2-3 p.m.
