Scholars Learning Community Presents at the Association for General and Liberal Studies Conference

Former Scholars Learning Community members Katie Fields and Megan Schramm explained how they used observations to form patterns and draw conclusions to attendees of Webster University’s panel at the Association for General and Liberal Studies in Memphis in late September.  They conducted an exercise using several demographic, historical, and specialized maps of Memphis so that attendees could replicate their experience in their First Year Seminar of exploring a community.

Webster Welcomes Students in Summer TAP Program

The Academic Resource Center and academic partners throughout campus are gearing up for the Summer TAP (Transitions and Academic Prep) program to be held July 19-28, 2017. TAP is a free residential program for conditionally admitted Transitions students who are new to Webster. During the 10-day program, TAP students live on campus, take a two-credit college course, and participate in campus workshops and activities, including the faculty "lunch and learn," to help them transition to university life.

At-Risk Student Referrals

Helping students persist is an important part of what we all do at Webster University. Retention is important to the institution and to students who have invested in their education. If you perceive that students may be at risk of not continuing their education at Webster University, please alert the campus director. Early awareness of potential roadblocks can sometimes enable us to find an appropriate intervention that will enable students to continue their enrollment.

TAP Preps Incoming Students for Transition to College, Success at Webster

This summer Webster's Transition and Academic Prep (TAP) program assisted 37 new students for the transition to college academics and Webster University. Since 2011 this free program has helped almost 150 conditionally admitted students connect with the resources and tools they need to succeed.

TAP Program Adds Service Learning Project, Preps New Students July 20-29

The Academic Resource Center is gearing up for the 2016 Summer TAP (Transitions and Academic Prep) program, which will be held from July 20-29. TAP is a free residential program for conditionally admitted Transitions students who are new to Webster. During TAP, students live on campus, take college courses and participate in campus workshops and activities to help them transition to university life.

Scholars "Meet the Minds" of Historic Vienna Figures

First-year students enrolled in the Webster Scholars Program in Vienna gathered in Café Landtmann for a very special evening: As a part of FRSH 1200/50: (De)constructing Intellectual and Cultural Identity in Vienna, each scholar researched and acted in the role of one of the following historical figures associated with Vienna: Sigmund Freud, Maria Theresia von Österreich, Lise Meitner, Boris Podrecca, Jan III Sobieski and Joseph Schumpeter.
