Summer/Fall 2018 Lab and Classroom Software Deadline

In order to manage a growing catalog of software titles, the University’s IT organization will assess all new software requests based on a number of factors in coordination with the programs of each school. This is in alignment with the themes of the University’s strategic plan and global impact for the next century. The lab and multimedia classroom software request deadline for Summer/Fall 2018 is Thursday, March 1, 2018.

Webster has a new wireless network beginning Jan. 30

New Wireless Network Launching Jan. 30

January 25, 2018

Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 30, there will be a new wireless network at Webster. This new network is called WU_Wireless and is slated to replace the current Webster wi-fi network. To give people time to transition to the new network both the current webster-wifi and the new WU_Wireless will be available until April 27, when we will transition fully to the new network, turning off webster-wifi. WU_Wirelsss will be available anywhere Webster-wifi is currently broadcast including most US extended sites.

Information Technology has announced several changes in its organizational structure to better position IT to meet the current operational needs of the university while delivering additional capabilities to address its evolving needs. These changes are effective Feb. 1, and have been informed by a series of community discussions with administrative and academic departments as part of a commitment to continual service improvement.

These factors include: the product life cycle, the vendor’s support structure for the software, compatibility with Webster’s PC/Mac platforms, and the product’s global roadmap, among other considerations. This is in alignment with the themes of the University’s strategic plan, Global Impact for the Next Century.

Cloud-based Storage - Google Drive Sync Client is Being Retired

September 18, 2017

Google will discontinue support for the Google Drive sync application on Dec. 11, 2017, and will fully retire it on March 12, 2018. For those who use the Google Drive sync client, other solutions will need to be considered. One option already provided to the community is Microsoft OneDrive, a university-wide cloud storage and sharing solution that is part of the Office 365 suite.

The University has been working to assess its compliance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation. We invite you to attend the Webster GDPR Training Session on Monday, Sept. 25, from 8-9:30 a.m. Project team members are encouraged to attend in person at the Library Conference Room; others are free to join or view online.
