STEM Outreach Event Hosted by Webster School of Communications

On March 15, Webster University’s School of Communications, in partnership with the Academy of Science of Saint Louis, hosted a FUTURE TREK event on exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in Communications Careers. Students got the opportunity to experience the applications of technology in multiple media industries and had the chance to hear from current students at Webster University who are pursuing degrees in the School of Communications.

Biological Sciences Faculty in K-12 STEM Outreach

For the seventh year in a row, the Department of Biological Sciences represented Webster University at the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Extravaganza, held at Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, Missouri. This year, professors Mary Preuss and Victoria Brown-Kennerly provided hands-on demonstrations with fruit flies, ants, phage, and scale models of the solar system. The family event draws hundreds of participants of all ages including K-12 students, and showcases many different types of STEM-based institutions in the St. Louis region.

Webster Presents 14th Annual High School Programming Challenge

With the help of sponsors Reinsurance Group of America, Century Link, Maritz and Hunter Engineering, Webster University will host its 14th Annual High School Programming Challenge on Saturday, April 1. The Programming Challenge brings together talented students from high schools in Missouri and Illinois to compete in a spirit of fun, testing programming skills and problem-solving ability as they work in cooperative teams.

Webster Participates in Hazelwood STEM Extravaganza

Five faculty members from the Biology, Math and Computer Science Departments participated in Hazelwood School District’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Extravaganza in Florissant, Missouri, on Jan. 21. This event showcases educational opportunities in the region for students interested in science, technology, engineering and math fields.
