Annual nation-wide celebration of international education and exchange

Webster to Celebrate International Education Week, Nov. 12-16

International Education Week (IEW) is an annual nation-wide celebration of international education and exchange that kicks off Monday, Nov. 12. Events run all week. It began in 2000 as a joint initiative through the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. Colleges and universities across the country host globally themed events and activities throughout the week.

Hawkins Named Transitions Coordinator

Corey Hawkins has accepted the position of Transitions Coordinator in the Academic Resource Center (ARC). He will transition from his current position as Coordinator for Minority Students in the Multicultural Center and International Student Affairs (MCISA) on Thursday, Nov. 16 to begin his new role in the ARC.

I-Fest Mixes Local Flair with Global Diversity

International Festival (I-Fest) on April 21 was a resounding success with a record turnout of over 375 people in attendance. The theme of this year’s festival was "Together in Community." The event was held in Grant Gym and highlighted local businesses and vendors as well as international performers from the St. Louis area.

The International Languages and Cultures Department hosted the second annual Global Game Day on Thursday, March 23, in the University Center. The ILC collaborated with Campus Activities, ESL, UFGC, JSA, and MCISA in continuation of the idea of #WeAreAllWebster. The event gave International and domestic students a chance to interact and make new friends through playing games together.

Teaching Festival Preview: Building an Inclusive, Empowering Classroom

Faculty, students and academic partners are invited to attend a workshop entitled “Creating Meaningful Change: Building an Inclusive and Empowering Classroom Environment,” Friday, Feb. 17, noon-1 p.m. in the Library Conference Room (Library 120). In this hands-on session, participants will strengthen their self-awareness of how they approach diverse identities (such as race, socio-economic status, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, nationality, ability/disability, etc.) while developing strategies for communicating with all students in their classes.

Webster Presents at Mosaic Project on International Student Services

Several from Webster attended and presented at the St. Louis Mosaic Project’s “University International Student Best Practice Sharing Workshop.” The goal of the Mosaic Project is to make St. Louis the fastest-growing metropolitan area for immigration growth by 2020. Members of Webster's Career Planning and Development Center presented on how to help these students to pursue career opportunities.
