Action Required for New Turnitin-Canvas Integration

December 22, 2016

Turnitin and Canvas have recently released a new Turnitin-Canvas integration which will be ready to use starting Spring I, 2017. All faculty teaching online will need to view assignments that use Turnitin in their course prior to graduate students returning on Jan. 6 or undergraduate and School of Education graduate students returning on Jan. 13.

4th RAD Highlights Collaborative Research across Webster Network

Webster’s fourth Research Across Disciplines Conference drew 64 undergraduate and graduate student research participants from across Webster and local universities, including Webster students presenting via videoconference from Geneva, Vienna, Zurich and online learning modules. The conference buttresses on-going efforts to afford students access to the high-impact educational practice of collaborative research.

WebNet+ Offers the Best of Both Courses

WebNet+ courses began in Fall 2015 and allow Webster students from any location to enroll in a class and participate at a specific time, from the location that is most convenient to them. This gives students the convenience of an online course with the live interaction of an in-person course. It also allows students to connect with subject matter experts located in another area.

2017 Teaching Festival Call for Proposals; Deadline Dec. 16

The Teaching Festival Committee continues to accept proposals for presentations, posters, panels, and roundtable discussions for the 2017 Teaching Festival on the theme “Finding and Sharing Voice: Active Learning for Inquiry, Agency, and Leadership.” The Teaching Festival will be held Feb. 13-17, 2017, and proposals will be accepted until Dec. 16, 2016.

Webster Named to 2016 Best Online Colleges

Webster University has been named one of the nation’s Best Online Colleges for 2016 by (ACO), a leader in higher education information, resources and rankings. The school earned the 30th position on the new list, which ACO generated by analyzing cost and quality metrics of thousands of U.S. colleges with online degree programs.

The Online Learning Center will be holding open office hours and WebEx meetings over the next two weeks to provide live support for any questions faculty may have related to supporting student success, teaching online and the new user interface (UI) for WorldClassRoom (Canvas). As a reminder, all operations remain virtually the same, with the exception of the top navigation bar now appearing on a left hand menu.

Concourse Syllabus Management Tool Expanded across Webster Network

The Office of the Provost and Office of Academic Affairs announced the expansion of the Concourse Syllabus Management Tool across the Webster University network. This effort is being led by the Faculty Development Center, Information Technology, and the Online Learning Center. "The expansion of Concourse will be beneficial in many ways,” said Vice Provost Nancy Hellerud. "It will be especially useful to leaders of programs and campuses with specialized accreditations and programs that are offered at multiple sites and online."

For those unable to attend the 2016 Teaching Festival, a webinar featuring highlights, interviews and live interaction with presenters will take place Feb. 25, 5-6 p.m. The annual Teaching Festival is hosted by the Faculty Development Center in collaboration with the Online Learning Center and University Library staff, and is facilitated by Webster faculty, staff and students with a variety of events related to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Athens Comes to Life via Short-Term Study Abroad

For those students for whom a full term abroad isn’t feasible, short-term hybrid study abroad courses are often the perfect solution, combining online coursework with a study abroad immersion experience of 1-2 weeks – perfect for students working full-time while in school, caring for a family or seeking a study abroad experience on a budget. One recent short-term study abroad course that took nine students to Athens, Greece, for the keystone seminar, "City Life: Ancient Athens."
