New Data: Webster Boosts Success of Transfer, Pell Students

Webster University has higher-than-average six-year completion rates for part-time and full-time transfer students, and for those who receive Pell Grants, according to provisional Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) statistics released by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics.

The 2017 cohort of Global Leadership Academy has its final sessions together Friday, concluding an 10-month journey of leadership development and reflection and deeper understanding of the complexities of the Webster University network. Fellows visited Scott Air Force Base on Thursday for perspectives on military and online education, while Friday features a wrap-up session and group project presentations. GLA Fall Week Opens with Talks on Leadership, Student Success, Finance

The 2017 Global Leadership Academy cohort meets throughout this week for its fall session and final week together. On Monday morning the fellows heard from President Stroble and Provost Schuster on leadership, from Walker School dean Simone Cummings and Lori Sharp on preparing students for graduation. The afternoon includes a session with Ana Karaman, chief financial officer. Tuesday brings a deep dive into learning-centered leadership.

Vienna Psychology Professor's Grant Will Study Prejudice in Inter-group Relations

Marc Mehu of the Psychology Department at Webster Vienna has secured a prestigious four-year € 640,000 research grant from the French National Research Agency (ANR) and the Austrian Science Fund to study nonverbal indicators of implicit prejudice and discrimination in inter-group relations. Mehu's research, in collaboration with Martin Aranguren of the Center for Migration Studies at the Marcel Mauss Institute in Paris, will observe interactions between Muslims and non-Muslims.

The New Student Success Portal is Almost Here

The Student Success Portal, powered by Starfish, has its initial launch on Oct. 16! In this first phase, the focus will be on training our faculty, staff, and students on the benefits of this new shared technology. The rollout will include information about setting up profiles, understanding and submitting early alerts (Flags), providing positive feedback to students (Kudos), and connecting students to resources through their personalized success teams. In addition, training will focus on online appointment scheduling and shared advising notes.
