There are several updates in the latest edition of the Construction updates, from the status of Browning Hall to a description of the work that has been completed in the Marletto's Marketplace remodeling project. Safety Reminder - Browning Hall Off Limits to All but Authorized Personnel

Browning Hall, the Interdisciplinary Science Building, is nearly completed, but construction crews are still on site installing major components of the building and completing punch list work. Because it is still officially under construction, the building and the area inside the fenced-off construction zone are off-limits to all but authorized personnel.

Just hours before the first coast-to-coast solar eclipse in North America in 99 years, several Webster University professors will give talks about solar eclipses and how they affect the world around us. The lectures are open to the public. Participants also will be invited to watch the eclipse with the professors, using special solar filter glasses supplied by Webster University.

Construction Update June 15 2017

Weather permitting, an emergency generator will be hoisted into place on the east side of Browning Hall, Interdisciplinary Science Building on Friday, June 16. The work is expected to start at 7 a.m. and last most of the day. A large crane and a tractor trailer will be parked on the roadway between the East Academic Building (EAB) and Nerinx Hall to complete the work.

In the News: Undergraduate research on herbicide impact on ants

June 08, 2017

NPR affiliate St. Louis Public Radio aired a story on Webster University undergraduate research into the effects of man-made contaminants such as herbicides on the behavior of ants. The research, supervised by assistant professor Victoria Brown-Kennerly, found that the presence of the herbicide Roundup caused Western harvester ants to stop digging. But they also found that glyphosate -- the chemical most associated with the product -- was not the culprit.

Work crews at Browning Hall, Interdisciplinary Science Building continue to make significant progress toward completion. The University is currently planning on moving equipment into the building in mid to late July. Watch this space in the near future for a more detailed moving plan.

The parking garage expansion is nearly finished. Watch Webster Today and this column for an announcement for when students, faculty and staff can park in it. In other news, large ventilation fans will be hoisted into place on Browning Hall Saturday. This will cause an evacuation of the north wing of the East Academic Building that day.

Browning Hall, the Interdisciplinary Science Building is on track to be completed shortly after the Fourth of July holiday break. If there are no unforeseen delays, major equipment will start to move in to Browning Hall by mid-July. In similar news, the garage expansion is still on track to open at the end of this month.

The opening of the garage expansion has been delayed for a week, due to a delay in the delivery of essential equipment. The garage is anticipated to open by the end of April. In other news, the trees in the new courtyard by Browning Hall will be planted next week, and crews will start working on the new landscaping for the front of the bookstore and garage.

The countdown is on for the completion of the Parking Garage Expansion. A ceremonial ribbon cutting for the event will be held in the garage at 11 a.m. April 20. The garage is expected to open by the end of April, provided the proper occupation permits are issued.

Power will be shut off to some buildings on campus Sunday for six hours while crews connect Browning Hall to the main power grid. Also, the garage is nearly complete and the countdown to the grand opening has begun.
