This is a regular update of the construction work for the Interdisciplinary Science Building and the Parking Garage expansion on the home campus of Webster University in Webster Groves, Missouri:

Work on the parking garage expansion will start next week. Construction equipment will begin arriving on Lot O, located directly east of the garage and drilling will start soon after.

Lot O will close permanently, as it will be replaced by the expanded garage. The current parking garage will remain open during the expansion, but some spaces on the east side on the upper levels could be temporarily closed later in October as a safety precaution.

When completed, the expansion will more than double the number of parking spaces in the garage. It is anticipated to be completed in spring of 2017.

The parking garage is needed in order to meet the City of Webster Groves’ parking requirements of the new Interdisciplinary Science Building, currently under construction. When completed, that building will help fill the needs of the community by offering robust STEAMM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math and medicine) programs. Several studies over the years have forecast a dramatic increase in jobs in the region that require employees to have STEAMM-related preparation.

In order to prepare for the parking garage expansion, the Webster Groves City Council required the University to expand the intersection of Garden Avenue and Edgar Road with a left-turn lane in front of the Emerson Library. The City and University collaborated on the project and it was completed in August 2015.
