Construction Update September 2 2016
A rendering of what the interior of the Interdisciplinary Science Building will look like when completed in 2017

This is a regular update of the construction work for the Interdisciplinary Science Building (ISB) and the Parking Garage expansion on the home campus of Webster University in Webster Groves, Missouri:

Parking Lot K (located between Big Bend Boulevard and the East Academic Building) will be closed from midnight on Saturday, Sept. 10 until 3 p.m. that same day. The closure is necessary as structural steel will be delivered to the ISB site. A 30-ton hydraulic crane will be temporarily constructed on Lot K to help unload the structural steel delivery trucks. Any vehicles parked in Lot K the evening of Friday, Sept. 9 should be moved to another parking area on campus before midnight.

In other ISB progress:

  • The backfill of the Level 0 foundation is expected to be completed by Sept. 2.
  • The placement of grade beams at the Level 0 (lowest level) backfill area is expected to last through next week.
  • Work crews will prepare and place the Level 1 slabs. That work is expected to start this week and last through Sept. 6.

At the Parking Garage Expansion project, work crews are putting the finishing touches on restoring the sidewalk entrance to the book store and parking garage entrance. In the next week, workers will lay seed and straw along the grass areas to the north and west of the parking garage. This is intended to help reduce dust and mud in the coming months. In the spring, the entire grass area from the book store to the eastern end of the expanded garage will receive all new landscape.

Workers will begin creating drill piers at the site of the former Parking Lot 0 next week. Those large shafts will be used to anchor the expansion.
