Construction Update June 7 2018
Work continues in the Sverdrup Building

This is a regular update of the construction work on the home campus of Webster University in Webster Groves, Missouri:

Sverdrup Building:

  • On June 6th, air handler #2 (part of the HVAC system in Sverdrup) will be intermittingly shut down for periods of 10 to 20 minutes to perform the duct sensor installations and control tie-ins at several locations in the building.  This air handler will not be shut down for an extended period of time on this date, and no significant change in the building’s temperature will be recognized during these activities.
  • The mechanical subcontractor, American Boiler, will be turning on the HVAC System in the renovated spaces of Sverdrup Hall this week to begin the building acclimation process (utilizing manual methods) to prepare the building environment for the installation of interior finishes, millwork, and cabinetry, etc. 
  • During the week of June 11th to June 15th, a number of periodic and/or intermitting shutdowns of the HVAC system will occur in order to download the VAVs and FCUs.  No change in building temperature should be recognized during this activity.
  • Metal stud and wall framing installation will wrap up during the week of June 19.
  • Metal stud framing on the northeast entrance and concrete installation will be finished by the end of June.
  • Electrical work will wrap up in the first week of July.
  • The atrium rough-in in the east end is expected to be completed this week. The atrium rough-in in the west end will finish up around June 18.
  • Structural steel installation for the west wing stair will finish this week. All handrail installation will be completed by June 28.
  • Tentatively on June 21, crews will pour concrete for a floor infill at the base of both sets of stairs. That work is expected to last one day.
  • Pour-in-place concrete and the installation of paver slopes will start the third week of June and be completed shortly after the Fourth of July holiday.
  • Masonry work at the east and west elevations will be completed by June 18.
  • Storefront glazing at the north elevation on the east side is expected to start the third week of June and last through the end of the month.
  • Roofing repairs at west and east installations will start on June 19 and last about one week.
  • All interior glazing is scheduled to be completed this week.
  • All interior painting should be completed by the end of the month. The last area to be painted will be on the second floor.
  • Doors and accompanying hardware will be installed on the first floor from June 14 through June 19, and on the second floor from June 19 through June 22.
  • Acoustical ceiling installation is expected to continue through the first week of July.
  • New plumbing will be installed from mid-June through the end of the month.
  • Crews will be polishing floors in the east and west wings and in the first-floor restrooms this week through the first week of July.
  • Acclimate flooring will be installed from June 15 through June 20. The installation of tile floors, which is currently ongoing, should finish on June 15.
  • New cabinets and countertops will be installed from the third week of June through the end of the month.
  • The construction of the new rack room (it’s the room IT uses to store and operate their hardware) will be completed by the end of the month.
  • The new partitions in the restrooms and accompanying accessories will be installed by the third week of June.
