LOUIS (MAY 4, 2015) – Webster University is proud to participate in the second-annual Give STL Day, a 24-hour, online giving event organized by The Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation to grow philanthropy in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Last year’s inaugural effort of Give STL Day raised more than $1.1 million for 528 local nonprofits. Over the course of the 24-hour period, Give STL Day logged more than 13,000 individual gifts, which ranged in value from $10 to $5,000. The Community Foundation launched Give STL Day 2014 as a way to generate awareness of the myriad of local nonprofit organizations and how they enhance our community and overall quality of life.

Webster University is one of the organizations that the community can give to during the day-long charitable event. Webster University Trustee Gene Toombs and his wife Judy have generously offered a $10,000 matching gift challenge for Give STL Day donors.

“A gift to Webster University opens doors for our students,” said President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble. “We are grateful for the leadership of Amelia Bond, president and CEO of the Greater St. Louis Community Foundation and vice chair of Webster University’s Board of Trustees, who brought this 24-hour community-wide online giving opportunity to St. Louis. We are also grateful to Webster University trustee Gene Toombs and his wife Judy who have agreed to match every dollar given to Webster up to $10,000.”

On May 5, beginning at midnight and continuing for the next 24 hours, donors can visit givestlday.org and use a credit card to donate to any nonprofit that has registered to participate. To contribute to Webster University, visitGiveSTLday.org and search for Webster University. Donations begin at $10 and there is no limit to the maximum size or number of donations accepted.

Both Webster University and the St. Louis Community Foundation are celebrating 100 years of changing lives and improving the St. Louis community in 2015. On January 21, 1915, a group of charitable St. Louisans formed a community trust now known as the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation, with the intent to maximize the impact of local philanthropy by pooling financial resources. Webster University will also recognize its Centennial anniversary with a year-long celebration from September 2014 through November 2015.

Throughout its history, the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation has served as an unbiased resource with unparalleled knowledge about the needs of both donors and the organizations they support. On behalf of its donors, the Community Foundation annually donates approximately $20 million to more than 450 organizations in St. Louis and around the world, and has contributed about $225 million over the past 25 years.
