The Office of the Provost and the Office of Academic Affairs announced Donavan Outten, Ed.D., as associate vice president for Academic Affairs, Extended U.S. Campuses. Outten will oversee Webster University’s more than 25 metropolitan campuses in the United States, providing leadership and strategic direction for this important segment of the university’s student body.

Outten brings administrative and academic leadership to the position, as well as experience with both extended, multi-state campus structures and online education. He has served as associate vice president of academic extension at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, and director/associate vice president for distance learning at Unity College in Unity, Maine. As a faculty member, Outten taught courses in education and business including educational leadership and administration, urban special education leadership, educational assessment, human resource management, and business policy and strategic planning.

“The metropolitan campuses are home to more than 5,500 students or more than 20 percent of our total student population,” said Julian Schuster, Provost, Senior Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer.  “Donavan brings leadership skills and diversity of experience to this important segment of Webster, and I am pleased he will join our leadership team in St. Louis as we work toward the goals of the new strategic plan – Global Impact for the Next Century.”

“Donavan’s experience cuts across silos and aligns with strategic initiatives underway to integrate online and on-ground offerings, arrange campuses and programming in strategic clusters, and ensure all students have the same, quality educational experience,” said Nancy Hellerud, vice provost.

Outten earned his BS in Psychology from Bethune-Cookson University an MS in Human Resource Development and Administration from Barry University, and an Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University, all in Florida. He will join Webster in mid-August.
