ARC Announces Faculty Casting Call

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is seeking full-time and adjunct faculty members from each of the school's and colleges to appear in short 30- to 60-second videos for incoming students. Staff members are also invited to participate in the video project.

All interested parties should gather outside between the Thompson Building and the Community Music School on either Monday, April 11, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., or Thursday, April 14, from 3-4:30 p.m. In the case of rain, filming will take place in the East Academic Building's Edward Jones Commons.

Each participant's filming should require no more than 10 minutes. Participants will be given the following prompts to help students get to know a little about them:

1) Name, department, courses taught
2)  Your most memorable and/or embarrassing “new student” moment
3)  One secret tip for any student who wants to do well in your class

The idea for these videos was developed during the January Bringing Theory to Practice Grant Seminar, which was designed to bring faculty members, administrators, and students together to examine opportunities for faculty members to further engage with at-risk students both in and beyond the classroom.

The video idea, proposed by Paaige Turner, associate dean in the School of Communications, allows more Webster employees the opportunity to participate--especially given everyone's varied summer schedules--and allows students to "meet" more Webster employees in a shorter amount of time. The videos are part of an effort to create an accessible way for students to get to know their faculty members and other Webster employees during the students' transitions to Webster University and will be used during the summer Transition and Academic Prep (TAP) program, featured on the Transitions and TAP web pages, and shared with campus departments.
