Rockwell Assumes Interim Chief Communications Officer Role to Lead Global Marketing and Communications

Effective immediately, Professor Rick Rockwell of the School of Communications will assume the role of interim chief communications officer, providing leadership for the Global Marketing and Communications (GMC) unit.
Rockwell's appointment was announced Thursday by President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble and Julian Schuster, provost, senior vice president and chief operating officer.

As associate dean of the School of Communications since he joined Webster in 2014, Rockwell has been charged with special initiatives, including graduate studies and online programs, as well a working with Webster’s metropolitan and military campuses. Involved in curricular developments, he has also provided administrative oversight for the School’s external media and student media organizations and publications, in addition to supporting other strategic activities of the School of Communications.
While associate dean, Rick collaborated with colleagues to grow graduate enrollments, establish new certificates in Latino media studies and production, create the first multimedia production degree in more than 18 years, redesign the School of Communications website, refresh graduate advertising and marketing, and increase diversity of graduate program instructors.
Rick brings to this interim leadership assignment distinguished academic experience at American University and Northwestern University, as well as journalism leadership and employment, including roles as executive producer, general manager, managing editor, bureau chief and reporter. His publications and consultations are extensive.
“I look forward to working with the GMC team to further their good work and to provide guidance during a time of transition. I also look forward to working with all of my colleagues on the faculty and in administration in this new role,” Rick said.
