Over the spring and summer, Webster University community members attended best practices webinars on prior learning assessment. The process helps students identify, document and assesses college-level knowledge and skills learned outside the formal classroom.

Interested faculty, staff, and departments are encouraged to hear a report and discuss next steps on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Faculty Development Center.

Vice Provost Nancy Hellerud, members of the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition Task Force, the Faculty Development Center and Academic Advising will lead the discussion.

Since many adult students have already gained college-level learning through their work experiences and training on the job, volunteer activities, civic involvement, travel, or in other non-academic settings, the value of such learning Webster recognizes the value and offers students the opportunity to evaluate their learning for possible credit as part of a college degree program.

This initiative extends already existing and familiar programs for prior learning like American Council of Education recommendations and external credit by examination programs like the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).
