Eileen Condon Named Dean of University Libraries

Eileen Condon, senior associate dean of University Libraries at Webster University, was named the dean of University Libraries this week. She replaces Laura Rein, who is retiring at the end of this year.

As dean, Condon will lead all aspects of operations and programming in Webster’s global library network, whose mission is to empower Webster’s diverse, global community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni to fulfill their research, learning, and information needs now and in the future.

She will steer the library’s strategic direction in support of the University strategic plan, Global Impact for the Next Century, and oversee all areas of library operation, including development, provision, and management of resources, collections and services.

“Eileen has been a valued leader in our community since arriving at Webster in 1992,” said Julian Schuster, provost, senior vice president and chief operating officer. “Her in-depth understanding of the Webster network and its student and faculty complement her expertise in library sciences to make her a great fit for this position.”

Condon previously served as acting dean from 2011-13 when Rein, who joined Webster as dean in 1995, served as University Secretary to establish the Office of the University Secretary at Webster.

“Eileen provided excellent leadership during her time as acting dean, and we welcome her to leadership as the Dean of University Libraries,” said Webster University President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble. “The library plays a critical role as a hub of knowledge development and sharing while providing direct support for faculty, staff, and students worldwide. Eileen’s ability to connect the Webster community with the latest academic tools inside and outside the library system and to lead staff who support them, is essential to this position and to implementing Webster's strategic plan."

Condon holds a master’s in library and information science from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a bachelor’s in English from Truman State University.
