James “Jim” Messmer, the assistant director of IT Services Management passed away Monday night.  Messmer was hired by Webster University in 2007 as a Help Desk coordinator. In 2012, he was promoted to assistant director of IT. In that role, Messmer managed the IT Service Desk and also hired and managed many students who worked in the IT call center.  He is survived by a wife and two children.

Webster is making counseling services available to any student, faculty or staff member who are deeply affected by this sudden loss. The counseling office is at 540 Garden Avenue, can be reached by calling (314) 246-7030; or through e-mail at counselingld@webster.edu (non-confidential). Counseling services also were made available to all IT employees this morning in the Luhr Building. Additionally, a Webster University counselor is hosting group sessions for IT employees and student workers at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Luhr Building Conference Room.

When details of any services for Messmer become available, they will be shared in Webster Today. In lieu of traditional services and flowers, donations in memory of Jim Messmer may be made to The National Children’s Cancer Society, a cause close to Jim’s heart.
