Chopin Visiting Professorship Brings Neumann, Kraidy to Vienna

The Dr. Elizabeth Chopin Endowment allows Webster Vienna to attract world-renowned professors in the fields of Business, International Relations, Art, Media and Psychology to lecture and share their professional experiences through public Forums. This Spring, Vienna welcomes two professors to their campus through this endowment fund.

February: Iver B. Neumann

Iver B. Neumann will be giving lectures on International Relations and Politics Feb. 19 and 20. Neumann is Director of Norwegian Social Research and Adjunct Professor at the Museum of Cultural History, Oslo University.

He was Montague Burton Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics 2012-2017, Director of Research of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs 2009-2011 and Professor of Russian Studies at Oslo University 2006-2008.

His latest books are The Steppe Tradition in International Relations, 4000 BCE—2018 AD (Cambridge University Press) and Concepts of International Relations (University of Michigan Press).

March: Marwan M. Kraidy

Marwan M. Kraidy is the Anthony Shadid Chair in Global Media, Politics and Culture and Founding Director of the Center for Advanced Research in Global Communication, at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is a recipient of Fellowships from Carnegie Corporation of New York, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Kraidy has published over 130 essays and 13 books, notably Hybridity, or the Cultural Logic of Globalization (Temple UP, 2005), Reality Television and Arab Politics (Cambridge UP, 2010), which won three leading prizes, and The Naked Blogger of Cairo: Creative Insurgency in the Arab World (Harvard UP 2016), which won three major awards.

Kraidy will be giving lectures in March, with dates to be announced.

About the Dr. Ortner-Chopin Visiting Professorship

Since 2007, Webster Vienna Private University is honored to acknowledge a very special fund, the Dr. Elizabeth Chopin Endowed Visiting Professorship, donated by the late Mag. Reinhard Ortner.

This professorship was created in honor of Dr. Chopin's long history of service to the university and the community. Dr. Elizabeth Chopin was the Director of the Vienna Campus from 1988-99.

The endowment allows Webster Vienna to attract world-renowned professors in the fields of business, international relations, art, media and psychology to lecture and share their professional experiences through public forums.

Past visiting professors include Ken AlbalaJoel M. Stern and Philip G. Zimbardo.
