American journalist and author Sidney Blumenthal shared insights from his research into Abraham Lincoln when he visited Webster University's main campus in Webster Groves Nov. 8.

Blumenthal discussed the latest release in his four-book series about the president, "Wrestling With His Angel, 1849-56." He referenced Lincoln's upbringing, the evolution of his stance against slavery and his developing sense of the historical moment as the United States grappled with the issue.

The event was  part of Webster's Contemporary Conversations for a Connected World series, in partnership with the St. Louis Jewish Book Festival. Visit the festival page for a list of events throughout the monthlong festival.

"It's important that we hold these events to engage the community and welcome the public into these conversations," said Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble, president of Webster University.
