Community Music School Student Joins Muny Orchestra
Community Music School

Community Music School student and recent graduate of Ladue High School, Nathan Hsu, has been offered a cello section position with The Muny Orchestra for the summer 2017 season. Nathan started with CMS in the Suzuki program with Mary Lou Gotman and continued his cello studies with CMS faculty member, Catherine Lehr.

He was a YPSO concerto competition winner and has been the recipient of CMS Artistic Merit Scholarships. He also participated in the CMS Preparatory Program geared toward students interested in pursuing professional music careers.

Muny auditions are blind, meaning musicians audition behind a screen and are unknown to the audition committee outside of their performance. The Muny orchestra is made up of musicians of all ages, from Nathan's 17 years to those 40-some years older. Teacher and mentor Cathie Lehr says, "Nathan will certainly grow as a musician through contact with this expanding group of peers. As his teacher I am most happy to welcome Nathan into this new professional world!"

Nathan replaces cellist James Perretta, also a former Community Music School student, who is pursuing new opportunities.
