Snapshots: University Celebrates July 4 with Webster Groves Community The Gorlok greets the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Anton Wallner, and Arts & Sciences faculty and staff.

Webster University again served as a gold sponsor of the Webster Groves Community Days festival, held July 1-4, including a presence in the parade through Webster Groves on Monday, July 4.

Staging for the parade began in front of the home campus on Lockwood. A long line of floats took parade-goers through the heart of Webster Groves, the suburban St. Louis community where the University was founded in 1915.

The University’s float this year showcased a science theme, with giveaway items that invited the community to two upcoming events on the home campus: the Solar Eclipse Viewing Event on Aug. 21 and the grand opening of Browning Hall, Interdisciplinary Science Building, on Oct. 19.

A record number of volunteers supported the University's parade entry, including faculty, staff and current and incoming students.

The new dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Anton Wallner, joined the Webster University contingent--and the Gorlok--in greeting community members along the parade route. The Gorlok  and College of Arts & Sciences reps wore lab coats or scrubs to underline the sciences theme.

Overall, a volunteer crew of over 30 Webster staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends walked the two-mile route alongside the float, handing out Webster-branded stick fans and solar eclipse glasses to the crowd of thousands. Faculty members from the College of Arts & Sciences, George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology and the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts were among the volunteers.
