Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration Jan. 15

The Webster University community is invited to the 22nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 15, at Steger Sixth Grade Center in Webster Groves. Members of the Webster University Gospel Choir will be among the performers, with Webster University students Robert Richardson (director) and Tyrone Griffin (accompanist) singing two selections.
The celebration includes a march, dinner reception and service.
The march begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. For those interested in participating in the march, a shuttle will depart from Steger Sixth Grade Center for Webster Groves City Hall at 4 p.m. Walkers are asked to bring flashlights and dress warmly.
A dinner reception will be held at Steger at 5:45 p.m followed by the celebration and community service also held at Stegar.
The celebration service includes:
- Keynote speaker Rev. Dr. Terrell Carter, pastor of Webster Groves Baptist Church and assistant professor of Contextualized Learning for Central Baptist Theological Seminary
- Recognition of the "More Than Just an Essay" contest winners
- A presentation of the Martin Luther King Scholarship Awards in honor of Ras Jones
- Music performances by the Webster University Gospel Choir; the Webster Community Choir directed by Lamar Fitzgerald and Dan Yokley; Hudson Harmonies; members of the Praise Band of Riverside Community Church; and Maria Ellis and The Vaughans
Come out and celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with the community on Jan. 15.
