Dean's Award Recipients Named for Spring Semester
Dean's Service Award recipients for Spring 2018: Elie Regev, Gorgeous West and Emily Mertz

Associate vice president for Student Affairs and Dean of Students John Buck has selected three individual students to receive the Dean's Award for Service for the spring semester 2018: Emily Mertz, Gorgeous West, and Elie Regev, all from the Webster Groves campus.

According to Buck, in order to be considered for the Dean's Award one must be nominated by a member of the Webster University community for performing a valuable service. Buck said the term "service" encompasses a broad range of contributions made by students, both on- and off-campus.

Emily Mertz, a senior political science major from St. Charles, Missouri, was nominated by Shiloh Bradley, a fellow Webster senior. She was nominated for founding Webster Wishmakers after her involvement with Mizzou’s Make-A-Wish chapter her freshman year, and for volunteering for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD), Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and numerous other organizations.

Gorgeous West, a graduate student in the Counseling program from Florissant, Missouri, was nominated by Hasmik Chakaryan, assistant professor in the College of Arts & Sciences. She was nominated for her leadership in the process of establishing Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society’s Omicron Zeta Webster Groves chapter, now with almost 40 members.

Elie Regev, a senior computer science major from St. Louis, was nominated by Xiaoyuan Suo, associate professor in the Math/Computer Science Department. He was nominated for his leadership as volunteer, participant, and judge in the annual High School Programming Challenge, and was named chief judge of the contest twice.

Up to four students at each campus are recognized each semester with the Dean’s Service Award. The awards were presented at a luncheon held in May in Webster Groves.
