Webster Faculty and Students Perform at Carnegie Hall

Webster University students, 53 in all, and three faculty members in the Department of Music performed on Sunday, March 26, at one of the world’s most important performance venues: Carnegie Hall in New York City.
“A concert like this changes lives. We are so fortunate to know a presenter who produces concerts [at Carnegie Hall], to have student[s] who wish to sing this dream concert, and to have faculty and administration who are supportive of this kind of extraordinary endeavor,” said Jeffrey Carter, professor and chair of the Department of Music.
Adjunct professor Heather McKenzie Patterson (soprano), director of Vocal Studies Martha J. Hart (mezzo-soprano), and associate professor Jacob Lassetter (baritone) were featured soloists in the Mass No. 5 in A-flat major by Franz Schubert.

The Webster choirs were prepared by associate professor Trent Patterson. “Dr. Patterson prepared the students in a most superb way; he led members of Chamber Singers and Concert Choir concert preparation over the last few months,” praises Carter.
Between rehearsals, Webster students had a chance to explore. They embraced New York City from the Staten Island Ferry, the top of the Empire State building, Broadway shows, vegetarian restaurants, and ice skating in Central Park.
The trip to New York was part of a busy spring for Department of Music students, who also performed at the Missouri State Capitol and at the St. Louis Cathedral Basilica.
Choirs from St. Louis Community College – Meramec, and the University of Missouri – St. Louis joined the mass chorus, led by David Rayl of Michigan State University.
