GLA Fall Week Opens with Talks on Leadership, Student Success, Finance

The 2017 Global Leadership Academy cohort meets throughout this week for its fall session and final week together.
On Monday morning the fellows heard thoughts on leadership from President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble and Julian Schuster, Webster's provost, senior vice president and chief operating officer.
The fellows also about preparing students for graduation from Simone Cummings, dean of the George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology, and Lori Sharp, the Walker School's director of Operations. The afternoon includes a session with Ana Karaman, chief financial officer.
Tuesday brings a deep dive into learning-centered leadership with Paul Paese, principal of Paese Management Consulting, as the fellows continue a yearlong self-discovery with reflections on leadership.
"The best leaders are willing and able to learn as they go, maintaining a coherent point of view of their own while remaining open to new information and changing course if warranted," Paese says. "Leading this way may sound easy, but in practice it can be enormously difficult, especially when the learning consists, at least in part, of discovering our own blind spots."
This week marks the culmination of 10 months of activities for the fellows, with offline and online collaboration in between weeklong sessions together in one place in the spring, summer and fall.
