Luke AFB Volunteers Join in Arizona National Memorial Cemetery Honors
June 05, 2017

The placing of flags on each of the over 50,000 final resting places of military veterans
at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona is an annual event that has grown in
participation every year.
For the second year in row, students, faculty, staff and family members from the Webster
University Luke Air Force Base campus location joined with many other community organizations
as well as individuals and families to ensure that those interred at the National
Memorial Cemetery of Arizona were remembered for Memorial Day 2018.
Taking part this year were campus representative George Maraston and his wife Rose;
faculty members Veronica Shapiro, Mike Kriley and family; students JT Taylor and Steve
Olson; and campus director David Handrahan.
Wearing their distinctive gold Gorlok (or as they say at Luke Air Force Base “GorLuke”)
t-shirts, the Webster team joined with volunteers from across Arizona to place over
50,000 flags to honor the service and sacrifice of those who served and now rest permanently
on a high desert plateau near Phoenix.
