Academic Resource Center Hosts Academic Integrity Week, Sept. 9-13

Academic integrity is a highly valued principle at Webster University. As a worldwide institution, Webster's mission is to ensure high-quality learning experiences that transform students to be global citizens and have individual excellence.

As part of this mission, students, faculty, and staff all have an essential role in upholding academic integrity values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility.

Academic integrity means being intellectually honest in all of your work created in the pursuit of knowledge and submitted in your courses.

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) will host an Academic Integrity Week Sept. 9-13, throughout the University. During this week, students and faculty can attend a variety of workshops to help hone their skills in academic integrity.

Part of maintaining academic integrity is using the resources available to students, faculty, advisors, and staff at Webster University.

The ARC website Academic Integrity at Webster that provides resources explains documentation styles and helps students navigate through frequently asked questions.

• Why should I care about academic integrity?
• How can I avoid academic dishonesty?
• Does copying a sentence or two counts as plagiarism?
• Does academic integrity apply to online courses?
• Can I resubmit work I’ve submitted in another class?

Students can also find on the Academic Integrity home page videos that feature Webster faculty members, department chairs, deans, and students sharing what academic integrity means to them and the Webster community.

Students can stop by the Academic Resource Center, where writing coaches are available to answer questions and give tips on achieving academic integrity.

• Monday, Sept. 9: Popcorn and Plagiarism (3:30-4:30 p.m., East Academic Building room 108)
• Wednesday, Sept. 11: Citation Station: An APA and MLA Refresher (2 p.m. -3 p.m., Emerson Library eClassroom)
• Thursday, Sept. 12: Academic Integrity: Helping Students Write Their Own Futures (for faculty, 3 p.m.-4 p.m., Emerson Library room 315, also available on WebEx: webster.webex.com
