Remembering Jean Hobler, Trustee and Dance Supporter
Jean Hobler was a former trustee and significant supporter of the Dance program.

The Webster University global community mourns the loss of former Board of Trustee member Jean Maritz Hobler.

Hobler served two terms on the Board of Trustees, first from 1987- 1996 and again from 1997-2006. Jean and her late husband, Wells Hobler, were passionate about the arts, and Jean had a special love of dance.

Their significant donations to Webster allowed the University to renovate the dance studio in the Webster University Loretto-Hilton Theatre, giving Webster’s Department of Dance spacious studio space to spark creativity. In honor of their impact, Webster University named the space the Jean and Wells Hobler Center for Dance.

Hobler also shared her love of dance and philanthropic spirit by establishing two scholarships to benefit students in the Department of Dance: the Jean Hobler Annual Dance Scholarship and the Wells Hobler Family Endowed Scholarship.

In recognition of her loyalty to Webster University and generous donations over the decades, Mrs. Hobler was recognized as a Webster Society member for annual giving, 1915 Society member for lifetime giving and a Legacy Society member for planned giving. In 2014, she received the Visionary Award, which recognizes Webster donors’ unwavering commitment to advancing the mission of the University.
