Applied Psychology Students, Alumni Honored for Helping Communities During Pandemic

Applied Psychology students and alumni collaborating on psychology-related COVID-19 projects to support local and global communities were recognized for their efforts with the #RealLifeHeroes award from the Association for Trauma Outreach and Prevention Meaningful World.

The Association for Trauma Outreach and Prevention Meaningful World recognized 22 students and alumni of Webster's Applied Educational Psychology and School Psychology programs who have done exceptional work collaborating on psychology-related COVID-19 projects to support their local and global communities. The remarkable contributions of each award recipient were acknowledged in the Oct. 6 Zoom ceremony.

"Webster University’s Applied Educational Psychology and School Psychology graduate programs are dedicated to supporting the well-being, rights, and learning needs of children everywhere," said Deborah A. Stiles, School of Education faculty member, human rights fellow, and psychologist. "We realized that the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic was a call to action and we began making informative presentations to share with others, [serving as] emotional health resources at Webster University during the pandemic."

The #RealLifeHeroes campaign was inspired by Dr. Ani Kalayjian, the founder and director of the Association for Trauma Outreach and Prevention (ATOP) Meaningful World, who has also served as a guest speaker for Webster students.
