Career Planning and Development Center Ready to Assist Virtually

With the outbreak of COVID-19 requiring so many courses and services to move to remote operations, many students may be concerned they won't get the resources or guidance they once did while on campus. The Career Planning and Development Center has taken steps to make sure that students are still receiving these resources and guidance virtually.
The CPDC has provided virtual appointment options for students and recent graduates for over two years, and now offers a virtual format for over 75 percent of the career development and employer programs and events.
"Our response to COVID-19 while keeping students' needs at the forefront was to seamlessly move all of our future advising appointments and remaining programs for the year, to virtual modalities leveraging the technology that Webster already has in place," said John Link, director of the Career Planning & Development Center. "Through WebEx, Microsoft Teams and our online career management system, Handshake, we have not observed a disruption in our activities, only adjusting to the new formats that we are offering our services and programs."
The Career Planning and Development Center will continue to innovate in the coming days and weeks to do what they enjoy doing best, provide individual support to assist students develop the career readiness skills and confidence necessary to succeed. "Embracing these changes has to be met with our 'putting students first' mindset so we can all work through these adjustments with optimism," said Link.

Requesting a Career Advising Appointment
Handshake
- To request a career advising appointment, please set up the appointment through your Handshake account at webster.joinhandshake.com.
- When logged into your Handshake, select "Career Center" and then "Appointments" to view a listing of available appointment days/times with a career advisor. When all of the fill-in information is completed, submit your appointment request.
- The assigned advisor will review your request and will either approve or request an alternative meeting day/time. You can manage your appointments anytime through your Handshake account (re-scheduling, cancelling, etc.).
You may also coordinate your advising appointment through e-mail by sending a message to Rebecca Nelson, associate director, Career Planning and Development Center, at rebeccanelson84@webster.edu, with the following information:
- In the subject line, write “Career Advising Appointment Request”
- In the body of your message, include your first and last name, student ID number, if you would prefer to meet with a career advisor by phone or video-conference, 2-3 options for meeting days/times (M-F 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.), and what you would like to discuss with a career advisor (job search, review of application materials, interview coaching, etc.)
Nelson will monitor her e-mail to coordinate schedules with students and career advisors. Students will receive a confirmation e-mail indicating that the appointment has been requested and is pending approval by a career advisor.
