2022 CMS Young Composers Competition Concert Changes Format

The Community Music School will alter the format of the 2022 Young Composers Competition Concert originally scheduled for March 26. Rather than a public concert, all winning works will be professionally recorded by musicians from Chamber Project St. Louis and compiled into a professionally edited video to be released April 11 on the CMSYouTube channel. In addition to the video recordings of each piece, guest composer Mark Camphouse will provide education and commentary about the individual works.

"Though nothing can replace the thrill of a public performance, we think creating this video is an opportunity for the winners to have a uniquely tangible snapshot of their work that they can share with others and refer to as they move forward in their composition efforts. The video will also be a valuable educational tool for the Community Music School and for music educators across the nation" says CMS Director Nicole Springer.

Online Workshops

In addition to the concert video the CMS will offer two online workshops geared toward young composers on March 26.  These workshops are open to the public on Zoom, and registration is required:

10-11 a.m. - "Making a Botch of It: Inspiration, Imitation, and the Creative Process" with Kim Portnoy from Webster University
