Chancellor Stroble Featured on St. Louis Public Radio
Chancellor Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble recorded two messages congratulating KWMU (aka
St. Louis Public Radio) for reaching its 50th anniversary of broadcasting in the St.
Louis region. Both recordings are being played at various times of the day this month.
Jenifer Lewis, ’79, Receives Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts alumna and 2015 Commencement speaker Jenifer Lewis
received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 15. She was interviewed by Fox 2 News in St. Louis about the honor and discussed how Webster University helped her achieve
her dreams of being a professional actor. An earlier version of the story also included an interview with Chancellor Stroble.
Jameca Woody Cooper on FOX 2
School of Education Adjunct Professor Jameca Woody Cooper was interviewed by FOX 2 about the anger and violent threats that are increasingly being used while expressing
political disagreements. Cooper said that such language is not new, but it seems to
be more common lately because politicians use similar language when discussing their
political opponents. Social media also amplifies rhetoric.
Webster Alumnus Nominated to Head the FAA
Dozens of news outlets ran stories that said Webster alumnus Phillip Washington was nominated by President Joe Biden to lead the Federal Aviation Administration. He would be the first Black man in the role. Washington is the CEO of Denver International Airport. Prior to that, he served as Denver's Regional Transportation District director and spent six years in Los Angeles leading its transportation authority. Outlets that ran the story include the Colorado Sun and the Washington Post.
Schöellhammer Editorial
Webster Vienna Assistant Professor Ralph Schöellhammer wrote an editorial in Newsweek
magazine about the recent protests by “populists” against what Schöellhammer calls
“elites.” These protests have become more common recently in numerous countries. The
editorial is online. This is the second editorial Schöellhammer has published in Newsweek in the past
month. His previous editorial is also on Newsweek's site.
Professor Schöellhammer also was mentioned in an article about efforts to silence protesters.
Webster Alumnus Brian Barlay Featured in the St. Louis Business Journal
Brian Barlay, an immigrant from Sierra Leone, runs a consulting business with an emphasis on helping immigrants acclimate to the St. Louis area and American culture. He wants to see more immigrants come here because they are “driven and entrepreneurial.” The story was part of a larger package of stories about how immigrants contribute to the St. Louis region.
Professor Belo Co-Authors Column in The Conversation
International Relations Assistant Professor Dani Belo co-authored a column on the need to transform the security and economic architecture of the European Union.
In the column, Belo and Carleton University Professor David Carment argue that the
Russian-Ukraine War actually started in 2014 and has exposed many weaknesses in Europe’s
security and economy. The article was co-published in several other political magazines
after appearing in The Conversation.
Webster Alumna Profiled by News Organization in Kenya
Webster alumna Jessica Gadsden was profiled by Kenyan news organization “Tuko.” The article mentioned her association with Webster University. Gadsden is married to musician Charlamagne That God.
