Webster Leadership Visits Uzbekistan to Strengthen Educational and Democratic Ties

Webster University President Julian Z. Schuster recently traveled to Uzbekistan, where
he met with government officials, higher education leaders, and Webster Tashkent students.
President Schuster and Webster Tashkent leadership met with Dr. Alisher Shodmonov,
the Rector of Tashkent Medical Academy. During the visit, President Schuster and Dr.
Shodmonov signed a historic memorandum of understanding for partnership engagement
to establish health-related academic programs in Uzbekistan. This memorandum is pursuant
to an agreement signed by President Schuster and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Health, Dr. Amrillo
Inoyatov, in May 2023.
The President and Webster Tashkent leaders were then given a tour of the newly built simulation center, which houses cutting-edge physical and digital medical training equipment.

President Schuster also visited higher education institutions in the region such as
Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, Russian State University of Physical
Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism in Samarkand, and the Samarkand branch of Tashkent
University for Information Technologies, named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi. Dr. Rustam
Kholmurodov welcomed the delegation to Samarkand State University, where multiple
rectors explored student opportunities and other forms of collaborations.
President Schuster then met with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Health, Dr. Inoyatov Amrillo
Shodievich. The leaders discussed the progress of establishing health-related programs
in Uzbekistan. Through the partnership, advancements will be made in health-related
programs – such as curriculum improvements so that Uzbekistan can enhance its healthcare
system by improving medical education.

Gayrat Fozilov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, met with President Schuster to thank him for his active involvement in Uzbekistan’s educational and democratic events. The minister expressed his eagerness for continued collaboration between the U.S. and Uzbekistan.
President Schuster wrapped up his trip by visiting the Webster University Tashkent campus. He met with a group of students for a discussion aimed to foster global academic connections. Before the end of the visit, President Schuster expressed his sincerest well-wishes for the students’ future accomplishments and endeavors. His presence and uplifting words demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the university community, underscoring his resolute support and encouragement for each student’s journey towards success.
