What enticed you to choose Webster University for your degree?

At the time, I was in the military, and Webster’s accessibility was very important. I was able to work during the day and take classes at night. Also, the tuition was reasonable and affordable. I was able to graduate without any debt.

What stood out about your studies at Webster?

The thing that stood out to me was that the instructors were working professionals. Thus, they provided more information than what was simply in the textbooks. The instructors shared a great deal of their professional insights, which enhanced the learning experience.

How did your Webster degree help advance you in your career?

My degree from Webster University opened the door for me to complete a PhD from a research one university. This opportunity allowed me to have a successful career in academics and then a successful career in entrepreneurship.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part of my job in entrepreneurship is freedom of choice. As an entrepreneur, I have been able to engage in projects that otherwise would not be accessible via a traditional career. For example, I wrote a graphic novel titled, Black Defender: The Awakening.

This project stemmed from a desire to provide more diversity in the comic book/action hero space. The book has garnered acclaim as a nominee for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Works, and Publishers Weekly’s BookLife named the book as “Graphic Novel of the Year."

Entrepreneurial freedom granted me the opportunity to explore a new area of interest. At the same time, I implemented strategies from my business background to assist in the success of the project.

What is something valuable you have learned during your career?

I learned there are three core things one needs for success: vision, belief and hard work. Vision is absolutely necessary for success. Having a clear vision allows a person to maximize their efforts because vision clarifies the direction. Belief is required because a lack of belief will result in half-hearted measures, which will bring failure. The power of belief is real. When a person believes in their vision, their behaviors align with that belief, which ushers in success. Lastly, hard work is necessary. There are no hacks or shortcuts for sustainable success. However, hard work is not the enemy, but the bedrock of success.

What advice would you give others who are considering Webster University for their degree?

Just do it! Webster University is an outstanding institution of higher learning. Your exposure to high quality instructors and staff will improve your prospects for the future. You will learn a tremendous amount and grow as a person.
