WorldClassRoom Canvas Commons Training

Updated Oct. 3 with additional training sessions in October

We are excited to be participating in a Canvas (WorldClassRoom) release for a new feature called Commons. Commons is a learning object repository, or LOR, that enables educators to find, import, and share resources in Web-Enhanced classes.

A digital library full of educational content, Commons allows users to build your courses and lesson plans. With Commons, you can find courses, modules, assignments, and quizzes to use. Canvas Commons will not be available for import or export into fully online courses at this time.

Our institution will gain Commons access on Oct. 2, 2017. Prior to then, some events are scheduled to help you prepare.

Enroll in WorldClassRoom Canvas Commons Training

When you enroll, you will receive an email when this short, fully asynchronous training goes live on Sept. 20. Enroll at and entering your Connections username and password.

A preview session will be held Wednesday, Sep. 20, from 1-2:30 p.m., via WebEx (RSVP here) or attend in person in the Library Conference Room.

Learn how Commons may help you to provide materials across a course in your department, a full program or all courses offered within your school or college. We will also discuss how to share resources, defining groups and determining how you can put Commons to work for your department.

Training Sessions

  • Tuesday, Sept. 26, 8-9:30 a.m., via WebEx (RSVP here) or in person in the Library Conference Room
  • Thursday, Sept. 28, 12-1:30 p.m., via WebEx (RSVP here) or in person in EAB 137
  • Monday, Oct. 2, 7-8:30 p.m., via WebEx (RSVP here) or in person in the Library Conference Room

These sessions will walk users through how to actually use Commons, upload learning objects, courses, etc. Commons is scheduled to go live Oct. 2, so bring your laptop and participate with live testing.

These will be open working sessions, so bring your laptop and plan to work with Commons as it relates to preparation for your individual course. You will be able to receive live help with:

  • Searching Commons for content and importing
  • Creating a library of Commons content for your own use
  • Building your course shell for the coming Fall II term

We look forward to seeing you there.

This is a great opportunity for Webster University to share the awesome educational resources created with the Canvas community as well as within the University.

Commons also provides a space to create a name for yourself as a subject matter expert by sharing your work with a community who recognizes its value.
