The Webster University Economics Association had its opening event, co-hosted by the Career Planning & Development Center, with members, students, faculty and staff gathered in the East Academic Building on March 1.
Attendees met the association’s president, Manuel Leon Hoyos, and Marcie Schumert, career advisor and liaison to the George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology.
The event's featured guest speaker was economist Maria Alejandra Arias. In addition to being an alumna of Webster University, over the last three years she has worked as a senior research associate at the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank, and has published papers on a wide range of economic issues such as growth, development, inflation, and virtual currencies.
Arias shared an inspiring story about her life after Webster and the importance of career exploration. The event ended with an encouraging message from fellow economist Julian Schuster, Webster's provost, senior vice president and chief operating officer.
