Snapshots: Commencement in Memphis, Navy College Combined Ceremony

Webster University graduates were among students from four universities taking part in ceremonies at the Navy College Combined Commencement in Millington, Tennessee, a suburb of Memphis, on June 2.
Joey Edwards, Webster University’s director at the Naval Support Activity Mid-South (NSA Mid-South) in Millington served as master of ceremonies at the event attended by about 600 people.
Webster University conferred 68 degrees at the event, including one degree to a graduate who completed his work at the Los Angeles Air Force Base. Rick Rockwell, chief communications officer for Webster and faculty member in the School of Communications, conferred the degrees on behalf of the University.
Capt. David J. Bryson, U.S.N., the commanding officer of NSA Mid-South in Millington delivered the commencement address. Students from Park University, Northcentral University, and Ashford University also participated in the combined commencement.
Edwards named Marchel Ebron as the student of the year for Webster’s NSA Mid-South location. Ebron finished her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a 4.0 grade point average.
The celebrating Webster graduates are part of a worldwide Class of 2017 that numbers 6,058 graduates at Webster campuses around the globe, joining a Webster University alumni network that is now more than 192,000 strong.

With campuses around the world, local graduation ceremonies continue throughout the summer and into the fall depending on local schedules.

The largest Webster University commencement ceremony each year is the one in St. Louis, where Webster was founded in 1915. More than 1,000 graduates turned out for the 98th annual ceremony on May 13 at The Muny in Forest Park. The ceremony annually attract grads and families from across the network, including 120 graduates who were there Saturday from campuses outside the St. Louis area.
This year's graduating class hails from 125 different countries. In the U.S. they represent 48 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Among the graduating class are 63 currently stationed overseas with the military. Also, 36 Webster University faculty or staff members and 33 children of faculty or staff members completed their degrees.
