Webster Receives Phi Theta Kappa Society Honors for Exemplary Transfer Student Support

For the fourth consecutive year, Webster University was named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Society Transfer Honor Roll for its work in creating dynamic pathways to support transfer students from community colleges into baccalaureate programs.

Webster is one of only 122 institutions, and one of three universities in Missouri, to make the list. Phi Theta Kappa is one of the nation’s preeminent organizations that is focused on recognizing the academic achievements and supporting the scholarship of community college students.

These honors are given to institutions based on their Transfer Friendliness Ratings, determined by their profile on PTK Connect, Phi Theta Kappa's online resource for students. PTK Connect offers students an opportunity to research universities and the explore all the scholarships and programs available to make ensure a smooth transition from community college into a bachelor's degree program.

In discussing her transitional experience, Jessica Battle, a current biological sciences transfer student said of Webster’s resources: “From even before my first day on campus, an enormous amount of support was provided to me from the faculty and staff. The transfer advisors reached out to me immediately and recommend scholarship opportunities that would be of interest to me. ...I was provided with all of the information I needed to feel confident in my two-year plan, both financially and academically.”

Transfer student resources

Programs available to transfer students considering Webster University include:

• Dual admission agreements with St. Louis Community College and Lewis & Clark Community College that make it possible for nursing students to be jointly admitted to L&C or STLCC and Webster University and provide the students the opportunity to seamlessly complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Webster University.
• Dual admission agreement with Southwestern Illinois College to streamline the application process and make more resources available for transfer students transitioning from SWIC’s associate degree programs to one of more than 70 bachelor’s degree programs at Webster.
• A variety of department- and program-level transfer guides developed with area community colleges that outline degree pathways from the associate to bachelor’s degree.
• A Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Achievement Full-tuition scholarship is awarded each year to two incoming transfer students who are Phi Theta Kappa members and show high academic achievement and leadership experience.
• A Phi Theta Kappa scholarship of $1000 is awarded to all full-time transfer students to Webster with proof of PTK membership.
• Now offered is the Presidential Transfer Scholarship, a competitive, renewable scholarship awarded to full-time Webster Grove campus attendees that maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA.
• A variety of virtual informational meetings as well as phone and video chat opportunities with admissions counselors and/or faculty.
• Numerous orientation events for transfer students to help with the transition.
• A new Facebook group has been created to help connect transfer students and allow for networking opportunities.
