Webster and Jefferson College Add More Degree Pathways for Transfer Students

Webster University and Jefferson College have expanded the number of options that community college students have to easily transfer into bachelor’s and master’s programs at Webster. The two institutions have streamlined how Jefferson College students can continue their pursuit of psychology, counseling and exercise science degrees.

This latest collaboration adds to an extensive number of pathways for community college students at Webster. 

“The trends in higher education are clear. More students are starting their educational paths at the community college level with plans to continue to bachelor's and master's degrees at other institutions,” said Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Thao Dang-Williams. “Working together, Webster and Jefferson College are making it easier for students to pursue their goals by removing barriers and lowering the overall costs.”

Under the new pact, Jefferson College students with an Associate of Arts in General Transfer degree can easily transition into the following Webster programs: 

• Bachelor’s or Arts in Psychology.
• Bachelor’s or Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Mental Health Degree.
• Bachelor’s or Science in Psychology Sciences Degree  
• The dual-path Bachelor’s or Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Mental Health Degree and Master of Arts in Counseling. 
• Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science degree. 

The agreement augments previous partnerships the two institutions entered in the past two years. Currently, Jefferson College biology students can transfer into Webster’s biology degree; digital communications students can enter Webster’s media studies, integrated strategic communications, and media production programs; and AAS nursing students can transfer into Webster’s nursing program, earning a BSN degree. Jefferson College students can transfer up to 64 units to Webster and instantly earn credit, thus reducing the number of classes they will need to complete at Webster to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree.  
 
Today’s announcement increases the number of options that community college students in the St. Louis region have for earning bachelor's or master's degrees to 32.  
 
Other similar options for community college students include:

• St. Louis Community College students can transfer into interactive digital media, media production, strategic communications, sports communications, animation and film, video and television production programs. 
• Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) student can transfer into business administration or legal studies programs. 
  Goldfarb School of Nursing students and Webster biology students can simultaneously earn a BA in biology and BSN in nursing. 
• Biology students can attend the University of Heath Sciences and Pharmacy and simultaneously earn a bachelor’s in biology and doctorate in Pharmacy degree, saving the students an entire year of tuition costs and time.
• Johnson County Community College game development students can transfer into Webster’s games and game design program.

Webster also offers scholarships to transfer students. Called the Network for Enrollment and Transfer (NEXT), students transferring from a community college that has an agreement like the ones listed above could receive up to $1,000 that would be applied to a student’s annual tuition costs. The scholarships are renewable annually. To qualify, students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and remain in good academic standing. In addition, transfer students can automatically qualify for numerous academic merit awards ranging from $11,000 to $17,000 annually.
